The Battle of The Nile is a non-starter really. British 13 ships of the line, French 12 ships of the line, 4 frigates
Too big, unless it turns into a 1 game / 1 day deal - your'e looking at 3000 points a side
So back to a more "generic" War Of Jenkins Ear scenario where I can keep sides to a minimum. 3-4 ships / side max 1000 points maybe less, mostly Frigates, smaller ships

I think Rorkes Drift is not what I want to do anymore for several reasons:
1) Done to death at lots of demos, participations and shows. 2) The models for Rorkes drift would be very limited, just foot soldiers (hardly a spectacle). 3) Getting the ratios of Zulus to British is tricky to point at which if I wished to place 200 zulus on the board I would just field 2 British guys. Not quite what I had in mind. There is the recycling of zulus which would help - but due to their particular battle formation this becomes tricky to implement. 4) Too much like a "modern" Thermopylae - which we have done already.
So instead I have opted for Khambula which is a lot better, has more going on. I can make use of quite a lot of the Boer war troops - including cannons, mule guns and cavalry as well as the Boers themselves. These would not need painting, although the Brits would have to be redone.
I just need a list of what we have in this set. Also I need to look at any wagons (carts) that we have and also redoubt making terrain (mealie bags etc).

Re Flames of war at last Kelmarsh. The reserves that "saved the day" were british on our table. We had modelled it on an armoured push by Panzer Lehr between American and British lines, which was the axis plan. The Americans were on the table at the start and the Brits came as the reserve to win it!(anti Hollywood perspective). The only problem is that all allied vehicles were marked up with the US star to save confusion, to the casual onlooker it might have looked all American. Trust me, more than one sherman "firefly" did it's bit for blighty and toasted my panthers Andy

personally, i was seriously dissapointed by the Battlefront guys atitude on the sunday.
he came in said hello then cleared off and unless someone can tell me different he never came back again and at least one family came back several times to buy the starter box from him and he hadn't bothered to sort any out.
i know he gave us a few river sections as a donation but this by no means made up for the let down as above.
i have no problem in a game of flames next year but i will not be contacting him re kelmarsh 2010, and if flames did not make an appearance next year and you wanted to put something else in its place, please feel free.

On the Flames /Kelmarsh 2010 theme I had a tentative idea of the Paras stand at Frost Bridge - maybe refighting the German charge across the bridge with their halftracks and armoured cars.
It would look spectacular but would involved some serious work in re-creating the bridge!!
Cheers

we do need to finalise what we will be doing next year by the time we break for christmas latest

Roddy, Arnhem ;D Now there is an idea. Throwing another into the pot, D-day pegasus bridge 3 gliders, Paras ( I know it was the Ox and Bucks) attack small german force and must "hold until releaved" against a counterattack. Might need 3 glider models, a bridge and some buildings. Paras get loads of piats and they captured a 50mm Pz III turret mounted in concrete on the east bank Germans get a couple of Stugs and infantry. Andy

Well, it will soon be November and we really need to start planning games for the FOH - 2010.
this is what we know so far;
Warlord Games they are planning a HUGE Naseby game using their ECW stuff with Kieron and myself planning on joining in so far, but of course anyone else can stick their hat in the ring for this as well.
Warren the Battle of Khambula is his poison this time with the British taking on the Zulus. Warren is repainting the Khaki painted British from the Boer war game of 2008 and he is still looking into the Zulus.
Simon the Trafalgar rules will be used for this 'ship on ship' action with the actual scenario still to be decided upon but maybe a Britsh v French battle and maybe even some pirates!!
Andy / Roddy Flames of War infantry battle? maybe pegasus bridge or something similar. we may need LOTS of buildings.
i have 12 boards that can be used for the last two games listed above if you'd like them. they can be repainted blue for the ship thing and grey streets for the flames one.
ACW i would like to see this done again to get some more use from the donated models from this year, but maybe suing a different scenario. Darrell, Alex, Gavin and Brian ran this table this year and perhaps one of you guys would like to take this on, although someone brand new can obviously put themselves forward. we do need to finish the painting on the last few figures please guys. i also think we should use the new Warlod games Black Powder rules as they are very kindly donating a free copy to the club.
ROMANS versus? as above i'd like to see the free stuff used once again. i have a large castle / fort which Colin donated to the club and can paint this up to use in a siege type game if required as i think a fortress always goes down well with people, especially kids. Steve and several others ran this game this year, and would like someone to take this on again please. any takers?? the fortress idea is just that, an idea, please fell free to suggest / do your own thing.
Wings of War anyone want to do this?
if anyone has any other ideas for games please fire them at us, although the only restriction is they MUST be historical, we cannot do sci-fi or fantasy etc.
thanks guys
