Alex and I are thinking of holding a mini Flames of War Tournie style comp on the all dayer on Sat 27th March.
Basic details as follows (although we have to work out the details yet!)
* 600 points forces - must be a legal force from one of the books or PDFs but you need only take 1 combat platoon instead of the usual 2 * 4' x 4' Tables *3 games per player (max 2 hours for each game) * Each of the three rounds will be a different scenario - We will have to make some alterations to some of the scenarios to make them work with 600 point forces. I am initially thinking Free for All, Encounter & Hold the Line (all with slight modifcations!)
Post here if you are interested - should get some of you guys that are just started collecting Flames stuff motivated for painting up all that lovely shiney lead!
If not then there will be plenty of opportunity to borrow a force for the day!
Cheers
Roddy

sounds good. also, what about another flames league or a campaign where people can drop in or out.
perhaps a hex map based Europe thing where you move into areas and 'encounter' others.
not a hands up to organise one i might add as i'm going to start my ECW shortly after the SFS has been completed (hopefully) but would be interested in playing in it or maybe 'aid' in the organising with a.n. other person being the main dude

Hi Simon
Late War most probably as that is what most of the Flames players at Phoenix have at present.

I'd be up for this.
Not sure what I'd have for 600 points however. That's a small number of points to try and fit a HQ, and at least a couple of other choices into.

Hi Stephen
600 was an idea for a starting point. The idea is a different type of game that will definetely be over in a couple of hours so that we can fit 3 games per player in on the day. If all are happy we could increase the points limit to say 750 points and I am sure that this wouldnt effect the time limit too much.
600 points gets you 3 platoons if you are German, 3 to 4 if you are British or American - I havent looked at Russian lists yet. You obviously dont get uber strong platoons or the biggest Jerry tanks, but that is part of the idea that you have to make tough choices!
What does everyone think?
Cheers

Hi everyone
There is a 600pt battle section in the rule book if you want a look.
Carl - On Sunday, Roddy and I saw the board for the Firestrom Campaign - Market Garden which is due out April/May. I will be buying it it looks great. I was think of running a campaign based on people dropping in and out when it suits them using that. Basically any FOW battle at the club can be part of it if the players want to. Gives an interest to the battles. Forces can be any Axis v any Allied with some additions from the Campaign board which can be proxied.
I think the problem seems to be that keeping the momentum going for the campaign is a tough task but as they say "nothing ventured, nothing gained".
Timing will probably suit as well as the club has a lot on at the moment, SFS WAB and Kelmarsh.
Right, time to watch "A Bridge Too Far" again. One of these times the Poles WILL get across the river!

The number of points isn't an issue. It'll be an interesting challange to try and fit a force that can handle tanks, or infantry into 600 points.
I'm simply not sure what I'd take. At that kind of low points level I have a lot of options in terms of both Battalion Types and individual units.
Given that small a force, you ought to be able to get a game done in around an hour to an hour and a half. So it should be possible to get maybe 4 games in between say 10am and 4:30 pm.

Yes that Firestorm stuff looked really good. Matt Sully got it all out on our table after we finished our game on Sunday. The board looked really cool.

I think the option may be to take understrength platoons but I dont know if all the armies have that option. For instance I can have 2 squad platoons instead of 3 for my infantry. I suspect there could be a lot of recce armoured cars as well.

Most do, but not for all units.
For the Russians, the majority of the Infantry and Gun team companies can be fieldied as a single platoon and HQ, rather than the normal two or three platoon companies.
I think I'd probably be looking at a three company force for 600 points with Russian Strelkovy.

I am going to try a 600 point game with Sean tonight (probably 2!) so will see how it goes. I have sorted out a Vet US infantry force defending against a German Grenadier force with a couple of Stugs and some recon armoured cars.
am going to try a slightly ammended Hold the Line scenario to se how it plays out. Should have enough time to play both sides to get a feel for it.
Cheers
