Guys; after discussions with the committee i have been asked to post something in relation to an idea i have for running our own event next year, and it is as follows;
as a member of the Raunds Co-op i can apply for a financial grant as part of the Raunds community to put on an event.
the main restriction is that it will have to be held in Raunds itself.
there is an excellent potential venue called the Saxon Hall which has very large halls and plenty of parking.
my idea would be to have participation tables, traders, bring and buys etc and maybe, if someone wanted to organise and run it/them, a tournament or two.
this would obviously be very similar to the event we held back in 2005.
all we would need to do is move the club boards and scenery etc early on the day itself (a Saturday) and set up the tables prior to opening the event to the public.
i'm pretty sure companies such as Warlord Games, GW, Project Hydra, Wargames Workshop, Perry Miniatures and Wargames Illustrated would support the event, but what we obviously need is the support of the club membership to help organise and run it.
this would be similar to Kelmarsh in that we would have tables manned by club members, but this time we could also invite the Bedford and Northampton clubs to run some tables as well.
so what do you all think, should we go ahead and apply for the grant, bearing in mind that we would have to run it in Raunds. alternatively, we could run the event somewhere else but we would have to stump up the hire charges for the venue etc ourselves from club funds, or we could decide not to do this, its up to you guys.
my feelings are that if we decide to do this we should pencil in a date of around early September next year.
also, we need a name for it, the last was called 'From the Ashes' so my choice would be 'From the Ashes II', not very original but there you have it.
please let me know asap as the closing date for application is the end of this month (October).
cheers
