2017's SFS trophy will be battled over in the cold city of 'Frostgrave'.
Please sign up here if you are interested in this, and the rules are;-
The aim of this campaign is to become the wizard with the most experience and gold during your league games, and ultimately qualify for the grand final.
For this you will select and keep to one school of Wizardy, along with your wizard base.
You will start with the normal 500pt force, and this should stay the same for each game unless you reach the final, although you can change your spells from round to round, but if you play the same person twice in one night the spells remain the same for both games
The experience and treasure you gain in each game WILL NOT be useable to increase any stats or starting numbers, but is simply a way of seeing who is in what league position. Also, if you win say your first three games and your next opponent has not played yet, it would be unfair to pit the two against each other on grounds of being mismatched.
Any treasure / items gained should immediately be 'traded' in for their gold value and this then goes onto that tally.
For example, if when you roll for treasure you also get a secondary item, potion, scroll, magic item, grimoire etc then these are then swapped for their gold value, but if if the item does not have a gold value then you simply double the gold value on the item number you rolled, i.e. a roll of 20 on the counting treasure table would give 200gc plus a grimoire, but you simply get 400gc instead.
Also, for each piece of your treasure tokens recovered you get 40 experience points, and 50 experience points if you capture and get off the board with each of your opponents tokens. If you manage to get both of yours, and both of your opponents tokens off your board edge then you gain a further 20 experience points, making a total of 200 experience points. So, two treasure tokens per player, per game.
Everyone should play each other once, but if possible, these 'games' should take the form of playing the scenario twice if possible, as games can be over quite quickly. However, if you only have time for one game that is fine. At the end of your game(s) simply roll for any treasure gained and then work out your experience and gold, and simply let me have these details so i can update the table accordingly.
Once all games are played then the person at the top of the table will automatically go into the final, and they will play the winner of the players who finished second and third.
The winner of the play-off will the player with the most experience points gained in this game, followed by gold coins if experience is the same for both players. If these are the same then it will be determined by who has what models left on the table, i.e. if one has their wizard and the other does not then the player with the wizard left is the winner. This then goes down to Apprentices left and then simply amount of models in total left alive at the end of the game, including any that left the table with treasure.
The experience and gold etc. gained in the play-off is not added to the league table scores and is simply to determine the winner of this game, which is a one game scenario, i.e. do not play a second game once the first is over.
The final is the ONLY game that the experience and gold gained during the league can be used, i.e. you can upgrade your wizard, and your warband as you see fit, including extra models if allowed, and purchase of items of magic etc.
So, although you play against opponents and you are trying to stop them doing certain things, the main aim is to gain experience and gold of your own.
You do this by getting tokens off your own board edge, and by the other means as per the main rulebook, I.e. successful spell casting and wizards killing models etc. Once both players have set up all their models then you both place your two tokens in each others set up zone. these should be at least 12" apart, and can be anywhere, including in / on buildings.
For the purposes of these games your opponent does not know where your tokens are hidden, even if placed out in the open, and they can only try and get them off you once one of your own models has picked up the token and made their first move action with it.
You can capture an opponents token by defeating them in combat either by removing the model holding the token, or by simply pushing it back from combat as they will drop the token and the combat winner will simply pick it up.
You can also collect a token should you kill a model holding one via shooting or a spell attack and one of your models picks it up later in the game. Models from the same side can also pick up tokens dropped due to these types of attacks, but you cannot deliberately drop a token once you have it, or pass it on voluntarily to another model in your warband.
Only models that start in your warband can collect tokens and they cannot be collected by constructs, monsters or warhounds etc.
Please also record the number of spells cast during each game as these will be recorded throughout the league.
For the purposes of this league, no models killed in game will need to roll on the appropriate tables, but if your wizard is killed then you lose 50 experience points, and 25 if your apprentice is killed. If both are killed in the same game then you lose an extra 25pts, making 100pts in total. This is for being wreckless with your main warband members. If this puts you into a negative total at any point, then that is also feasible. All members of a warband killed in a game are simply replaced for your next game.
Only games played at the club will count and please ensure i get the results before you play your next game, and ideally on the night the games are played, either at the club or by posting on the league table thread that will be created soon.
All games to be played on an area 3ft square minimum but no bigger than 4ft square please. Max of one building per table quarter, although trees and woods can be scattered as liberally as you wish.
When you set up, please set up models 6" from each table edge and no more than 8" up from your own back table edge.
All other game rules as per the main rulebook.
If i think of anything else over the coming days i may add this in here, but i will not alter the rules once the first game has been played unless a glaring incident happens from anything above, during the first few games played.
If anyone has any suggestions on additional rules for this please post here, and will consider all sensible suggestions.
Thanks and good luck to all that dare to enter the cold barren wilderness that is FROSTGRAVE
