I don't see what that Blog entry, although it is interesting, has to do with the question of whether you can buy additional weapons for soldiers. Everything in that blog is talking about the balance of Wizards being able to buy an extra weapon and fight with two, which is something that is covered explicitly by the rulebook.
I've done multiple google searching on variations of "Frostgrave buying weapons for soldiers" and so on, and I can barely find anything where people have even been asking whether this is something that you can do, and where I have turned up something, it's all been answered with a pretty flat "soldier's equipment is fixed, although they can carry a single magic item"

The way I read it is that they cannot be given additional weapons unless it is a magical version of a weapon type they already have, and this then takes up their item slot.

That was my reading also. Warren queried that last week during our game, saying you could buy an extra weapon for 5 gc per soldier.

As I said before happy to do so as it wasn't my definitive list and I am so glad that I had the game with Stephen to even find this out. Not that it mattered as my so called wrong list was carved up pretty badly and had no real advantages even with those oversights. Can I come off the naughty step now?

I think the one sided nature of our game was probably more to do with my dice rolling, especially on defense, than anything else. There was a lot of shooting and magic that simply bounced off my warband as I kept rolling 16 and higher. Where as when I fired back Warren inevitably rolled low resulting in lots of damage done. Nature of the game to a certain extent, given it's a D20 system, not a D6, there will be a much wider variation between the two players rolls, and since the damage is based on the attack roll, if you roll high you will kill stuff off very fast.
Incidentally I didn't think your list was that unbalanced as it happens. A couple of extra missule weapons on Thugs is not that much of an issue play wise. If you were going to abuse the weapons for soldiers, the build would presumably be lots of crossbow armed thugs (5 or 6) and then a couple of expensive guys, rangers maybe, or treasure hunters. Giving you lots of cheap, if rubbish, missile fire, and still some high quality people.

Until a new section is added for me to add a league table please don't play any league games
If there's a lot of players I may do two leagues
