I don't know if this is the right group to float this idea in, but : - After last nights game of wings of war it seems that there may be a few people interested/ enjoy the game. Not wishing to take this away from Liam (I'm sure he won't mind), I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a mini league. Perhaps one evening a month, two sorties and a points tally kept for kills, missions completed and surviving. I already have the basics for this from somewhere else. It would involve some missions as well as straight dogfights. It wouldn't be a firm commitment as you could drop in and out as you like, but if you could indicate that you are interested then I can judge if it is worth going ahead with some organisation. p.s. Planes are always up for loan, so don't feel you need to buy one.

There are ways a means to work a league. The only down side is that although there is scope to change planes, you would need to either fly for the Hun or Blighty and stick to that side. Those who flew more often would tend to build up more points overall, but I would include a column for points per sortie. A fairer comparison for the less frequent flyer. I'd suggest that we might fly on the last meeting of each month, so you could work other commitments around it. Missions might be one sided one month, but would balance the next, so ensuring no bias to either team. There'd be team points, but rather like the real situation the aim is to become a famous "top scoring" ace. As you might have guessed i've been thinking about this a bit ;D

Meh, I don't mind anything at all. I'm just organising the game at Kelmarsh so I don't mind it if you want to run the league yourself.
I think the best way to start the campaign off is for people to choose a side (Entente or Central) and an appropriate name for their pilot. That way, if they get shot down, all they'd need to do would be to pick another name ;D
I'm not sure what rules you're planning on using for the league, but may I suggest that players not get access to two-seaters until they've earned a reputation - have certain missions be worth differing amounts of reputation points and once you've hit a certain amount you can trade up. In fact, reputation points could also be traded in for plane repairs, upgrades (i.e. temorary ace skills), or anything else you could think of.
I'd also suggest that we play on the first meeting of every month rather than the last so we don't have to change things around come Christmas time.

All good points, Liam, thanks. I'm not trying to steal your game, Liam, but am happy to do the league admin if you don't want to. Pilot name is good and if you are unimaginative, like me, you could go for Von Windy II etc. 2 seaters will need to be limited, there is a special rule to limit their rear arc of fire. It's so they don't shoot their own tailplanes. I agree, limited access to using them, they will be needed for some of the missions/ scenarios, so we need to think that through. 1st meeting of the month, OK. So everyone on for Nov 6th ish? I'll knock some house rules up and put a link to the games rules on pdf. I'll try to run any ideas past people before making them, or if you have a problem let me know and we can adapt the game for our needs. Is there any chance of our own area in the other section?

i may struggle with the first week of Nov as i have a game against David at 40k so he can try out his GT Army. as this is only a couple of weeks away may i suggest starting the first week of decemebr as no-one will have booked anything in advance game wise and it will give you added time to sort out the admin, rules, who is playing (and on which side), missions / scenarios etc.
just a thought. however, nothing stopping us having another practice night before that so we can all hone our flying skills.

Hey all! I've posted some thoughts on the league in its own post in the Historical Wargaming forum: specifically hereI'd be really interested to see some discussion on it, so feel free to head on over there and post your ideas.

This sounds all very well - however there are a number of people that have commitments to the fantasy trophy - some people have actually committed to other games rather than the leagues when clearly on a few occasions this could have been done. Two people that haven't played each other have been present on the same night, playing other games. Not that there is anything wrong with this but if it comes to the end where Darrell has no games left and others have still four or five to go then it sort of begs the question if people want to carry on if they look at no-win figures. I know a number of you play role play games fair enough this is a plausible excuse but all I'm saying is if you have the time and the opponent why avoid it? (I'm not talking about everybody here).
The league for WoW sounds good and I would like to be a part of this (or something at least). The crux of this is that I feel this should be done well after Christmas and the New Year. Let's get the fantasy games out of the way. I apologise to those who are not in the fantasy league - it is obvious that I am not talking to you.
