OK I have bandered this idea around with the commitee in that sort of "eyes only section" so now I'm coming out of the closet - whey-hey kerchhh! ;D
Ok this is a draft idea only for the overall plan: Read but keep in mind that this is the just the basic idea of the tournament, so I don't expect questions such as "ooh can I take this and will this be allowed (pertaining to your own army etc..)?"
However constructive criticisms or thumbs up will be greatly welcomed.
Here is the basic outline put forward for the Rushden Rumble Warhammer Fantasy Battle doubles tournament for 2012.
This year I have thought of a slightly different and hopefully new approach to the Rushden Rumble. This has a bit of twist in it that will hopefully be something that fellow gamers may want to participate in. Obviously it isn’t going to be everybody’s cup of tea but we hope that most can see that we are forging ahead to make this tournament a little more unique. Yes it may have been done before but I haven’t seen a tournament like this recently
Ok so what gives?
First you will have to have a stand alone 1000pts army, which fulfils all the regulations of your legal Warhammer Fantasy Army Book (lists to follow) and the Warhammer Main Rules Book. Any books published after 11th February 2012 will not be accepted.
This army would have to team up with your initial partner’s stand-alone 1000pts (you know that guy/ lass you usually come with) and fight the first round together as allies. Both of you will each score whatever you score collectively after the table battle has ended. For instance if as an allied team you gained 30 points and scored 1700vps against 400vps then both of you would be marked down as having scored that each.
What we are trying to do here is to see which individual players can play in a doubles team no matter who the partner is. So in the second round the top x doubles players would be drawn to team up with the bottom x amount of players. This will be the luck of the draw and could see battle brothers, desperate allies etc…
Again the doubles result will be added to each combatant’s army tally. So effectively it is a single’s league that uses the double’s results to gain points.
In the 3rd round we will again draw new teams from the current top x on the leader board with the bottom x amount of players. At the end it will be the player who scored the most points in each of his double games (with various partners) that will be the winner. If there is a draw the amount of Vps will be taken into account.
We understand that taking Lords in this initial stand alone army can be difficult, but it is up to you if you wish to try and get a 250pts Lord or/ and 250pts of heroes. So choose wisely as you may actually end up being part of an allied team that may just not have any magic users at all in the 2nd and 3rd round. It may pay to take a little insurance. However no named characters are allowed.
We are trying to build a more social aspect of the game where you would meet new people and have a great laugh.
Timings:
09.00 –09.15 – Registration
09.15 – 11.35 – Game one - Battleline
11.35 – 12.20 – lunch
12.20 – 14.45 – game two (extra 5 mins to familiarise with your new partner – game plan?) - Battle for the Pass
14.45 – 15.00 – Break
15.00 - 17.25 – game two (extra 5 mins to familiarise with your new partner – game plan?) – Meeting Engagement
17.25 – Awards and pack up.
Semantics about the actual game play and what is allowed and which items are banned if any will be posted up in the actual rulespack. Thus far its just a question of the overall feel.
I like the idea of the points system that Mark used in the MK massacre tournies so I may use these with his permission (if I need it). We'll see.
Please ensure that you understand that the idea is about two buddies intially teaming up with two STAND-ALONE 1000pts armies for round one, then new partners for the other rounds.
Winners will be calculated as single players.
I may even consider Players in position 1+2 to be the winners, people in 3+4 to get 2nd silver medal and 5+6 to get the bronze awards. There will be the usual other trophies and some whacky ones for good measure - provided we get the a good number of players. We can accomodate 20-22 teams downstairs and 10 teams upstairs to make a total of 32 teams which is 64 guys at most! However we should look at filling downstairs first.
Stephen could you please book downstairs for definite for the 3rd March 2012 and upstairs provisionally for the same date please? If this is a no from the Scouts please try for the 10th March 2010.
