Stephen and I flipped a coin and the edudicator was Merlin...
Stephen won the toss and elected for the Byzantine Coalition to attack the Europa league garrisons. Sorry guys! No matter next time round we will attack there's (in a later round).
We also did the draw and tried to seperate people that had played / are playing each other in round 2.
So Europa League to the Left and Byzantine Coalition to the right.
James (IR) vs Stephen (Carthage)
Simon (Viking Danes - couldn't bring myself to initial that!) vs Julie (RR) - played
Robert (IR) vs Andy (IR) - played
Roddy (RB) vs Colin (EIR)
Darrell (Gauls) vs Kieron /Carl (Persians)
Warren (Spartan Greeks) vs Alex (Chinese)
So the Europa League should have their Skirmish 750pts (which they used in round one) as Garrison defenders with the 500pts Reserve coming on in the second round to try and help. Remember that the hero upgrade is allowed to temporarily join the reserve force if you gained him.
The Byzantium Coalition will have their 1500pts attacking plus any upgrades. The upgraded captain is now a hero (junior officer) and will naturally slip into his 1500pt army role.
This is always a difficult match for the defenders however behind defended obstacles is going to make it difficult for the opposition, plus the reserve will come on in the second round. Which board edge they come on should be marked on a piece of paper after the defender has deployed. Remember that the defender must put all of their troops inside the garrison 1st. Then the attacker is free to deploy all his troops around but no closer than 12 inches from the defenders deployment. Originally this was 8 inches but on reflection 12 inches is fairer as this could be over by round one in some cases.
I will do an errata on this in the near future as I have noticed a few quirks here and there that could have an impact on the round after this. These rules would then remain in play for the return game in a later round. Keep a look out!
