I know GW prices are spiky but I have just seen the new Empire Great Swords kit of 10 models is on advnace order at £24.75. Is this the price of all regiment sets now? - if so ouch! I may just give up on GW completely (once I have a Valkyrie and some Guard advisors) at these prices.

i agree they are getting silly, which is why its best to order from people like wayland. however, i am finishing off my vamps and then stopping getting anymore GW stuff, until i decide down the line to recycle again and sell one army to fund another.
perhaps we should ask the GCN to get involved in putting the gaming communitys concerns over gw's extortionate prices and see what response they get as a large body.

Being involved with GW in the past, I think I can quiet safely say that GCN/anybody will get the standard company answer on that one.
GW prices have always been slightly above average, but their thinking is people will pay premium prices for (what the see as..) premium figures.
Also with the sharp increase in the prices of white metal and oil (which affect plastic prices), and that they price with the view to keeping that price for 4years (yeah i never believed it either), then they set the price accordingly, after all they are a PLC and need to make a reasonale profit to keep share holders happy, which in turn allow them to have a more hobby focus on their 'business model'. GW will always strive to give the best quality and standard in gaming models, and as such need to invest in more design and 'hobby support' than most figure companies. Blah, blah, blady-blah...
anyway thats what remember being the company line

i understand that BUT if Renedra are making the stuff for the Perrys and Warlords and they can sell at the prices they currently are, then WHY can't GW? and surely they are buying the 'same' plastic made from the same base materials as GW.
i'm pretty sure it does not equate to £2.45 per plastic model to make a 'reasonable' profit margin, this smacks to me of ripping off the gamer again, in my opinion.
Also, i noticed that the Empire battallion is now £60 not £50 (20% increase)
the winners of GT's will now be the RICHEST gamers not the best players as they will be the ones who can afford the best armies / models

I totally agree. It is far too expensive, and im sure more people will think twice before each purchase.
As anyone in business knows, the 2 easy ways to increase turnover/profit is to either 1. Sell more product 2. Sell at higher price
Unfortunetly GW seems to have taken the later option, instead of what they use to do (6+ years ago) which was to recruit more gamers, and selling more product.
I was thinking of doing an Undead army this year, but as you know ive gone down the FOW and ECW route instead... Still loads of toys for half the price.

I tend to buy second hand models from auction sites and car boots etc now and repaint them rather than pay for the models new, it saves me a couple of quid too.
I also dont mind having some of the older models if it fits with the army (with nids it doesnt really matter).
I thought assault on black reach was the one thing that was actually really good value for money.

Don't they know there is a recession on!
Trying to increase revenue by increasing prices can't be the way to go at the moment. I can't see these prices being affordable to younger gamers anymore especially with other attractions for kids such as console games etc.
The same amount of profit can be made by selling more of a model at a lower price surely.
The thought of doing an Empire force had crossed my mind but at these prices it doesn't look attractive when I can get more for my money in other periods and manufacturers.
I suppose as long as gamers keep buying their product they will be able to command the prices they charge.

I agree with the general consensus here, that its going up unreasonable. This is mainly due to the shareholders, market conditions and Lord of the Rings! seriously thou, they must be in trouble with this now, probable having to for fill some franchise agreement for so many years without the initial sales it generated during the films. I'm with Kieron here I like the new shiny stuff, I just can't afford it now well at least I'm getting all my minis painted now!!...

"Lord of the Rings to blame for price increases" How Aragorn(t) of them to Gimly hang on to this Hobbit of keeping prices high while other companies are Pippin them to it. I'll have to pay Moredor and Borrowmore to settle the Bilbo or end up Helmsdeep in debt. This is not Samwise business sense as the public will go Souron them. Apologies, I was bored Andy On a serious note, I think it will put more kids off at grass routes level, or at the very least the parents will start to question the VFM.

i think that the club should ask the GCN council to get involved with this and let them know the general disgust this has awoken

i dont think the GCN will get involved unless a large number of GCN clubs decide they wish to protest there is a possibillity the Gcn council could ask for feedback from the clubs which could be presented to GW but this is a issue that could only be discussed at a council meeting. i have e-mailed Gw stating the disgust at the latest price hike If i get a reply i shall post it on the forum and probably send a copy to the GCN council. as club leader if the club wishes to raise the issue with the council i will do so but i am unsure what the GCN could do

I would think that emailing GW is a good idea, if you can get lots of people involved, otherwise its just good for the soul. The GCN would add weight to it.
Personal, I think the club should partition the GCN to canvass the rest of the associated clubs, I'm sure that you'll find backing.
