As previous discussed, I'm looking to organise a Warhammer Fantasy Legendary Battle for the next Saturday all-day event (May 9th). Using my experiences from the 40k Apocalypse games I've run so far, I'm looking to make sure that this game runs smoothly so this thread will be for Warhammer players, both those participating and those not, to discuss ways to make the game run smoother.
As before, with the Apocalypse post I made previously, I'm aiming to try and set a common ruleset for future club Legendary Battles, so it hopefully won't take too long to organise other games like this in the future. As part of this, I'm looking for feedback to these rules, which I'd appreciate being posted here for other people to read and discuss.
To begin with people will need to download and read the Legendary Battles rules here. Those rules will be used fully with the following amendments and exceptions.
I am looking for up to six players to take part in this game with an eye to having three players to a side; first come first served seems fairest (and those players already having expressed an interest to me have already had their names put down provisionally). One of my initial mistakes with the Apocalypse games was to not limit the amount of players involved, which led to a slow game. Also, those players need to be fairly well versed in Warhammer Fantasy Battle; enough so to be able to play an average 2000 point game without aid. No offence to anyone involved, but I also felt that the lack of experience with 40k on the part of some players also contributed to the slowing of the game.
In addition to this, I am also looking for an assistant referee to help me out with the game; both with rules decisions as well as to help the game run quicker. Volunteering for this position does not imply any kind of obligation to do this again in the future; it is my aim to have assistant referees 'rotate' for future games (so if they refereed one game, they wouldn't referee the next) giving all members of the club the chance to play. The Assistant Referee wouldn't get to play in the game itself (unless I change my mind about this) as I feel that large games need referees whose attention isn't diverted by a need to play their own game.
I'm thinking that 10,000 points a side would be probably be a good total to aim for; that allows players to be flexible with the costs of their individual army lists.
Unless people had a strong objection against it, I think that players shouldn't be allowed to use Allied Units, at least for this initial game. Dogs of War (including those units in the Ogre Kingdoms army book that are allowed to use those rules) would come under this; if you wanted to use DOW or OK then you'd have to field an entire army of them.
I see no issues with Massed Batteries and Monstrous Hordes being used unless anyone has objections to them.
Deployment will likely be the Race method; I don't think the club has the facilities to use the Screen method and the Map method, unless we did it in advance of the day itself, would likely take too long.
Magic will not be limited in any way except as described in the Legendary Battle rules. Each Dwarf player will add +2 Dispel Dice to their team. In the large game played on the last weekend, Mike and his opponent both reported that Magic didn't play a large part in the game due to the large amount of defence available (mostly Dispel Scrolls) so I'm not putting an artificial limit on Magic unless people want there to be.
The objective method will be used, as will the accrued control points method described.
That's the gist of it. Do people have any ideas about whether or not this will all work out?
