the next saturday all dayer is April 25th and i think it would be good if we could do some of the kelmarsh games at this meeting, but this means getting stuff painted and based etc.
can i ask what those of you who are painting stuff think to this and what can we get done in time, we have almost 2 months?
thanks

I have commited to a large scale fantasy battle with Mike, Liam, to name a few. Although this has not been put into full swing vis a vis what we are actually doing - but I believe its going to be a big bash - Mike has 5000pts of High Elves (though I would suspect that 4000pts are characters ;D (only joking Mike!)).

I'm not sure the Celts will be done by that point anyway. I'd expect to be more than halfway done by that time, but I'm not sure everything will be finished by the end of April.
I've not finished off the first Infantry unit yet, although once that's finished I'll have worked out how I need to paint the rest, so things should speed up a bit.

are you using the army painter stuff that Jon got as if not you will have half the army done in that and half not, which may look a bit odd to be honest. if you had not planned to use it then may i suggest you speak to Jon about it as i think they should ALL look the same to a certain degree with regard to how they are finished off.

I wasn't going to use army painter, purely as I have inks of my own.
The stuff that I'm painting isn't going to look the same as Jon's anyway, we're bound to select different colours and our styles of painting aren't that similar in any case.

More like from spread across what is now several three or four counties. Caractacus's army was draw from more than one British tribe, mainly Silures, but also Ordovices and possibly one or two others.
Some variation in clothing colours and styles between warbands would be reasonably historically accurate.
Given the scale I generally assume that 1 WAB figure represents around 10 actual men, so each 30 figure unit is actually a 300 Celt warband.

at the last meeting back in Jan, we discussed having a unit or two of each army ready for 17th march for piccies. how is this coming along people and will anyone not be ready.
we could extend the deadline until end of the month, BUT we do need to get a wiggle on in general as we need to get pics to ALL the donators and to the mag people, as well as just getting them finished parsee(?).
i know steve said in an alternate post he had not really got started but we all need to make an effort on this please as we want to run tester games asap in May with FULL armies on the tables.
thanks, and i await your replies and updates

I don't know about painted up FULL ARMIES in May - seems as if the goal posts have been moved from the end of June to May. I will paint what I can and it will be ready whenever free time permits - but definately all will be done by Kelmarsh - that I can PROMISE you.

Warren; the end of June all dayer is when i was hoping we could get something in the paper for and invite 'joe public' in FOC to test out the games but end of May latest is when we need to have them finished really so there is no last minute panic and we can do some 'in house' game evenings trying them out at the club nights.
would be better to have this done for then so there are no last minute panics.
John; good man.

Steve, I have carefully filed your Chaldean archers - they had a small excess of flashing - not as bad as the Vendel ones I have. I have put them onto 20mm square GW bases and they have been undercoated black. I usually wait 24hrs before painting anything that has been undercoated just to let it settle and to ensure any fumes have dissapated.
I have base coloured 16 spartan archers, and have almost painted up the Persian heavy cavalry. I have a number of Immortal archers and heavy infantry to complete (they have been undercoated black), plus I have just acquired 48 more of the same and 24 light infantry on Ebay for a knockdown price! I have horses painted up from last year for the Persian light cavalry and all I need to do here is to just paint the guys and put them on these.
So far it looks as if I have x2 units of 20 immortals and a big unit of 40 (although this may change), 10 Heavy cavalry, 3 units of skirmishers with javelins, 1 unit of Eygptian marines, lots of other bowmen. I will be waiting for the next batch of Persians that's another 72 to paint! All in all the Spartans will be outnumbered and of course with the ability of the Persians to be without number, they will be coming back on each time if they are destroyed.
