I am looking to run a 40K Doubles Tournament at the extended Saturday on the 28th of February.
This will work along similar lines to the Warhammer Doubles tournament organised by Warren and Paul at the beginning of January.
The rules will be as follows:
(1) Each army will be made up of 2 500 point forces. (2) The combined army must comply with the standard 40K Force Organisation (1-2 HQ, 2-6 Troop, 0-3 Elite, 0-3 Fast Attack, 0-3 Heavy Support) (3) No Restrictions who may Ally, so any combination of forces is allowed, even if in game universe terms it would never happen (i.e Nids/Necrons)
The intention will be to play three games on the day. One of each type of mission, each game using a different setup type.
I will post the full details of which mission will go with which deployment when I have my rulebook to hand (i.e tonight).
The points scoring system will be as follows. Win: 3 points Draw: 2 points Loss: 1 point
For each game you will also need to calculate the points of your opponent you have destroyed in order to calculate a points difference for each game for use in case of ties.
Destroyed units count full point cost, units below half strength count half, as do immobolised vehicles, etc.
Take you opponents score away from your own to work out your points difference.
Can interested players post here so I can determine whether the tournament is viable. We will need a minimum of 4 teams (8 players) for this to work.

I'm interested.
I'm curious, however, as to whether or not you would be enforcing Phase Out for Necrons; if you were then Necron players would likely have a tough time of it at the low point level games we're talking about here, but if you didn't then one of their balancing measures wouldn't be around potentially making them the most powerful army choice.
Also, were you considering limiting the forces in a similar manner to that described in the first paragraph on page 5 of the 2009 Doubles Tournament pack (basically restricting army selections slightly)?

what game length time wise. i assume as its only 1000pts per team it will be 1. 1/2 hrs ish max?? also will you be doing a random team draw out of the hat so that novice players dont come up against 2 seasoned players for instance?

also will you be doing a random team draw out of the hat? I like the sound of this; picking the teams at random, but then choosing your armies together after you've been teamed up sounds like a good plan.

the only problem with choosing afterwards is that some (and i include myself in this) players only have one army to choose from.
i think it might be better, and more fun, to actually write your list up, and then draw names so that whoever you get paired with your armies are already set.

The only problem with that is that you'd not know whether or not the two of you would be able to fulfil the minimum requirements for the Force Organisation Chart.
And just because you have only a single army doesn't mean you don't have a variety of 500 point armies you could construct from that.

I was expecting people to pair themselves up in advance, purely as it's easier all round that way.
I can do a random partner draw if that's what people want, but that would need to be done in advance also. I don't mind who I personally team up with, but others may not be so keen.
In regards to Necrons I was going to disregard "phase out" unless it's a Necron's/Necron's pairing, purely as to not do so would be much to much of a handicap. It's hard enough to do a competitive 500 point force of Necron's as it is, without further handicaps.

Well that's 4 so far. We really need at least 8 players to run a proper competition.
I might have a word with some of the Bedford members on Monday and see if any of them might be interested.

Jon I've already spoken too at the club, unfortunately he can't often make Saturdays as he works.
It'd be nice to say have 6 or even 8 teams, get a proper competition going.

I have nids but with all this other stuff to paint I just wouldn't be able to get them done - there all still in boxes. However I'm sure that Julie wouldn't mind a game with her Eldar. Oh as I haven't played properly I would be a serious handicap to anybody so I will count myself out.

I quite happy to pair up with you Warren if you want to play.
I have multiple armies from which to choose your force. Space Marines, Orks, Eldar, Chaos Marines, Chaos Daemons (although my selection there is a bit limited).
Besides as it appears you will be providing both halves of our Warhammer doubles army it only seems fair to reciprocate.

Hi guys, finally had the chance to log on and check the boards. Sorry I cant make the 28th as I have already got something planned. Sounds like a great idea though and I would be well up for one in the future.
btw, I would say I am a seasoned player history wise (ive been collecting since the models the early 1990's) but I havnt had that much experience playing the game and the majority of my competitive gaming has been with you guys since I joined the club last september/october time.
