Hey everyone. Arron here, I was wondering how many people would be interested in taking part in the starter campaign for the new 5th edition of DnD. It's called the Lost Mines of Phandelver (there are a tonne of reviews of it on the internet, the majority of them being very favourable.) I've played it before with some friends of mine and it really is a fun campaign. Unfortunately outside elements caused us to be unable to complete it and so I've searched out for a new gaming group.
I have all of the necessary equipment that would be required to play the game, all I would ask you to bring would be a writing implement and your razor wits. And of course it would be entirely up to you all if you would prefer to use the pre made characters or create your own, (I think the majority vote should decide that one.) I already have the books required to create characters if need be.
And by the way, just to clarify, the campaign choice is not set in stone, I have a batch of Campaign books and am also more than happy to home brew (I have done so before and the responses were very positive.) if you all would prefer.
Don't let past experience of the game be a factor though, this starter campaign is a great initiation into the game as well as fun for more experienced hands, (it was the first campaign that I had ever played after all.)
Any response would be most appreciated. I would really love to be able to get this adventure running again, this game is just so much fun.

Hi Arron
I might be interested in joining your 5th ed. DnD shenanigans. How often would you envisage meeting, though, as I'm committed to the Saga campaign and would like to get the odd figure game in?
Cheers Martyn

Hey Sapper. To be honest I was thinking every week/ 2 weeks and then once we become more accustomed maybe moving it to a non club night at one of the players houses, maybe alternating or something. But for the mean time let's focus on getting a game going before any of that really, lol.

Cheers Arron
Put me down as definitely interested, then, but subject to frequency and timing. I'm not sure my missus would let me out two evenings a week (sheepish grin)

I'm always up for rolling some dice, I've played everything up to 3.5 - how big a change in editions is there?

Sure thing Sapper, right now the schedule is only really set to the night of the club (everyone's got to get to know each other after all.) Hey James, glad to hear your optimism. As for the differences, there's no enormous change like 4th edition (shudder, thank goodness the dark times are behind us.) 5th Edition can best be described as a simplified version of 3rd Edition. Where everything isn't based on modifiers and conditions, but instead every character and creature gets only two modifiers (the stat bonus and the proficiency bonus, both of which progress as your level increases.) and then any positive or negative bonuses give you advantage or disadvantage instead, where you roll 2 D20s instead of one and then take the higher result (advantage) or the lower result (disadvantage) and apply the modifiers to it. So it makes combat a lot more streamlined, not having to worry about positioning and such. There are free editions of the rule book and DMG online from wizards of the coast if you want to have a look, they're just rather trimmed down and basic. Here's a link dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules

Hey guys, there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest on this site for a DnD game, however there is a DnD club that takes place in the Burton Latimer Library every Sunday at 11:30 if anyone is at all interested.
