Hi I am currently looking for a club I can regularly attend and hope to find people I can play either WFB v8 or Kings of War with. I am yet to learn Kings of War and am seriously considering transfering to this system, but need to find a good network of players locally. I do still enjoy WFB V8 and do still own previous ed rule books, but mostly look to play V8 as I put a lot of time, effort and financing into this system and don't wish to venture into Age of Sigmar . What are you chaps playing mostly and would anyone be kind enough to introduce me to KoW and possibly even play V8 rules from time to time? Kind regards Mark

Welcome! We do indeed have some 8th edition Warhamsters, indeed we have the annual Rushden Rumble Warhammer tournament and this year we are also having a charity Warhammer event in October ( phoenixgamingrushden.proboards.com/thread/3233/shadows-stones-help-heroes-tournament?page=1#scrollTo=22038 ) I believe some others have shown an interest in KoW and transfering across to it. Your best bet is to talk to Warren down the club, as he is our resident master Warhamster (wstevens on the forum). Feel free to post on the "Arrange games" section on the forum to see if you can get a game, or also feel free to come down to the club one night and talk to us and we can introduce you to the fantasy players. Pete

Hi Pete
Thanks for the informative warm welcome!
I have indeed met Warren - great guy and always a pleasure to play. I am hoping to get down to the club quite soon and join your ranks of 'warhamsters'.
I have 2 boys aged 10 one who plays 40k the other is starting to get into the hobby with Age of Sigmar (hopefully I can convert him to WFB/KoW). Would they be welcome to come along too, or would they need to be a little older?
It would be great to take part in the October Warhammer event - are there any spaces?
A fan of the late great Johnny Cash I see :-)
Regards
Mark

Hi Mark, Welcome to the boards here. WFB is still rocking here and we have a few that have started to play AoS. Indeed myself and Craig are entering a tournament hopefully in September as a doubles act! Although I have not had much experience with it I will be having a practice game in a few weeks. I was a bit meh with it but have had a little change of heart with the advent of Mo's pool selections for tournaments.
Still rocking out the 8th ed and don't actually mind some of the End of times stuff after studying it a little more carefully than just my quick initial dismissal. The October event has still places left and revolves around a charity Auction during the tournament in which you get to play with what you have a won as mercenaries. Full downloads are where Pete has linked you to above. It is for Help for Heroes. The tournament Shadows and Stones is a little different than the normal tournies there are and is based on an almost campaign event with some escalation also. We won't be playing EoT for the moment just 8th edition to keep it simple. There are two sides chaos and light(order)- you just have to let me know which side you wish to play for (obviously taking in mind the model collection you have). We do have the Rushden Rumble every year around the beginning of March (1st or 2nd Saturday). This is a doubles tournamnet with a bit of a twist where people play with the partner they came with in the first round and then partners are swapped around. Its a way of seeing how good you are playing with your army with other people. Oh and did I mention Giants?
As for Kings of War I have to look at this again as the last game I played was two years ago with Kieron. However at the moment I see no need to swap over as I have come to terms with the notion that 8th edition and AoS are just two different games with different rules just using the same models. I am now not even considering comparing models. However 8th edition is the one that will always top my list. However I cannot play AoS as "let's see what I have in my collection" and start mixing Chaos with Empire or Dwarfs with Goblins. My heart is still with the WFB lore and this will never change. Although the EoT stuff is a very interesting read.
We have the Axes tournament which is Warhammer Ancient Battles a week on Saturday and this is for Biblical armies to early Greeks. This is just WFB 6th ed without magic so quite easy to follow for those into WFB. So I have a practice game for that on tuesday night. I am also booked up the next Tuesday but the week after that I am free. So if your fantasy initiated son wishes to to have a game of 8th ed we could sort something then. This will be the 1st September. Our club is always looking for younger talent so the name of the club can live on after we have all shifted this mortal coil so no worries on his age. The only thing is that you are present. As a school teacher I have a DBS certificate and a number of other committee members have also. There are also a plethora of 40K players and there is a 40K tournament at the club called Eternal War 2 on the 12th September, although its been slow on the uptake.
Let me know if you wish in on the 8th Ed WFB tournament on the 3rd of October.

Hi Warren
My partner and I would love to pop down and watch some of the axes games if possible? We are both very interested in this period as I have been contemplating either Early Hittite, Trojan, or Assyrian for this period, as I am very keen on Ancient Near East history and the early days of the Greeks. My partner studied Ancient Near East Archaeology/History at UCL and is also quite interested in watching how the game plays and the armies work. Would it be OK if we were to spectate silently?
I would love to take part in the WFB Tourny 3rd Oct, can you put me down for forces of light (order) please.
I will look at dropping in on the Tuesday evening you suggested, it would probably be for a game for myself playing 8th ed and Tim will probably want to play a few small scale games of AoS if possible. I thought letting him play AoS for a while to introduce him to gaming, then try introducing him to something like 8th Ed.
As for WAB I have the 1st Ed, which I found very similar to 5th Ed WFB, but without the magic. I have been contemplating either WAB 2 or Hail Caesar, but would much prefur WAB 2, as I am more familiar with the system. I guess it depends more on how accommodating the rules are for the period and factions I would like to play. With the much improved ranges Warlord are offering now for ancients I am very tempted to ditch much of my flames of War and venture into the world of Ancient Warfare once more haha, as I won't be going into Bolt Action.
I also have most of the End Times books and have been constructing lists and bought a few of the models, so absolutely up for some End Times games.
So to confirm I will drop in Saturday if thats Ok? and will attend and take part in the Shadows and Stones event playing forces of Order. I also should have some where a Bronzino's Galloper Gun model I can paint up and donate too, but will have to dig about in the attic...
Kind regards
Mark

OK that's great Mark. I forgot your surname so need it for the Shadows and Stones tourney. Then I can pop you into the light / order section.
As for this Tuesday if you are around just have a watch of the few WAB games that will be around. You are more than welcome to pop in on Saturday at Axes 2015. If you want to take part just let me know.
