I want to get started on FOW in the future but am struggling to find any decent websites where you can see decent pictures of the figures - I am ken on doing some kind of eigth army themed force. Any suggestions on how to get started???

I would suggest battlefronts own website www.flamesofwar.comThey've got a variety of painting and modeling articles on the website. The online store has images of nearly all of the models, for the platoon boxes you can cycle through the picture of the various models in the unit. Clicking on the thumbnails brings up a much larger copy of the pictures so it's generally pretty easy to see what everything looks like.

James; good to see you are getting into FOW. dont forget i have some catalogues if you want one which have a few pics in and Osbornes will give you 10% off purchases. as steve said try their website for full pics which will give you a better idea of what you need. there is an eigth army box deal but all can be bought separately.

Tom at Project Hydra also has FOW stuff and I saw the other day he had the Desert Rats army box in there.
At the moment if you buy one of the "army deal" box set things (sorry it's a bit vague as I don't actually play!) you get £10 off one of the "Front" books.

Should also have mentioned there's some FOW models in the display cabinets in the shop too.

Cheers - I won't be doing any buying for a while yet as I have just bought some Romans for Ancients!

That will be good Stephen - I hope to have a small force ready in few weeks, I am going to try to paint as I buy so have started with 2 units of Legionaries and some archers. Once I add some some auxilaries and and a scorpion I should have about 1000 points, maybe more depending on funds!

That'll give me a chance to get some of my many Celts painted up and ready for battle.

Then when each of you are ready you can take on any of my Alexander, Epirote or Macedonian lists.

If you are thinking of taking up flames of war its good that you have an idea of what type of army and peroid you are looking at starting. How-ever i would sugest that you first buy the rule book and the Africa book and look at how you want to construct your army from there, the 8th Army motor company army deal is very worth while and gives you a full 1500pt force to start with and you can then expand from there. I myself and a friend of mine are both keen fow gamers and play both mid and late war theatres of operation. we are now looking at the africa campaign and would be worthy oponents for you. Again there are a few people worth meeting at project hydra northampton who also play africa and have german armies. I am also looking at starting a group for flames of war that will play campaigns within the local area for those with an historcal interest.
