This is the rulespack and downloads for this year via the link. www.wabgt.co.uk/downloads.phpIt seems that they are playing 2800pts in 2 1/2 hours. This seems a reflection on the new AoA book although some have voiced differences of opinions and feel for our tournament Axes 2012 we should just use 1500pts - although nothing has been set in stone yet. I haven't been able to get the book as yet so I am asking those that have - is this an indication that maybe we should up the points? There's relaxed games and then there are really relaxed games. Admittedly there was a problem with one of our scenarios last year in unison with one army list. The latter was at no fault. Perhaps if Simon could look at the viability of 2000pts with the new book. It seems that Vikings have been hit with a decrease in toughness to "3" in the new AoA. Is it really possible for the WAB GT guys to play 7 rounds in 2 and half hours with 2800pts? I think its possible but will make for some incomplete or very rushed, stressy and pressed games. Will break points may be the only salvation here?

My view is until we have played games from the new AoA book we have no feel for the points values we should set. I like the smaller games, if it means we can get through the games in a meaningful manner.
My hope is that the new army lists encourage more historical army makeups.
I still await delivery of my AoA book.

The Portsmouth chaps were holding a 3000pt tourney with a few lower point games, however they have now said that to get the same models they are now looking at 4200pts when using AoA.
I don't really want to get to our tournament fielding the equivalent of a supplement 1000pts and just play 3 games. So you can see my premature anxiety about not knowing.
Apparently the Romans and Germans seem to fair better marginally. I can't verify this until my book comes so I'm pretty much in the dark. Anyone care to enlighten?
Follow their thread at the WAB forum in the tournaments section (Dave's).

I still believe we need to see the new AoA book and try out the new size armies before we can make any meaningful judgements. Unfortnately I still await delivery, flipping royal mail or is it warhammer historical, why should they be allowed time off at xmas huh.

Well nobody has mentioned it to me - and I'm the person who writes the rulepack. Paul is right - we need to play a few games to get a feel for the new points system. I already have an idea of what we could do, but until I've played a few games using lists from the new book I am not going to commit myself to anything. The new Viking list does indeed reduce the Hird's toughness to 3 and people will be pleased to know that the Berserkers and no longer the terror weapon they used to be. But they gain Shieldwall (and the ability to move or charge while in it) and they now cause FEAR to everybody not just units with a LD less than 7.

So are the lists in WAB 2 now invalid - does a Roman now cost more or are they just suggesting bigger games?

By way of a comparison - my 1500pt Danish Army from Shieldwall is now 1849pt.
To get this figure I recalculated the points for the existing units and options with the new points.
I replaced the Godi (no longer availbale) with a Hersir to lead the Bondir - but elsewhere if an option was no longer availabe (e.g. Javelins for Hird) I ignored it, neither did I take any options not availale in the original list (riding horses)
The best way to compare is to take an existing list form one book and convert it to the appropriate new list.
I did try with my 1500 Hoplite Greek list, but the new book replaces 1 list with 2 (early and late) and my 1500 army is not legal for either of them due to armour restrictions - altough it probabaly work best as Later HoGs.
If other people could do the same sort of conversions we might get a clearer idea of what has changed and how it effects things

My picts have increased to 1990 ish - mainly because warriors have INCREASED in cost to 10 points. I believe Roman legionaries are about the same - IMHO this is a flaw because warriors are now very expensive in comparision to legionaries, when they always seemed to struggle with the previously cheaper points values.
TO be fair we need to play some games using the new points lists, but I will not be suprised if romans and other hard core close order infantry based armies are even more powerful.
we will see.

What did your picts cost under the old system - and from which book?

6 points each and Shieldwall - oh and they had pikes ;D ;D ;D Thats a 4 point increase for the vast bulk of my troop types which now have Thrusting Spears. OK more historical so no worries there but an extra 4 points each - find me that darkened room to sit in, I feel depression sinking in

My 1500pts Macedonians that I took in last year's axes are now 2094 pts - those hypaspists are 30pts now - I could have died! A unit of 18 Agema were 352 pts they are now 555pts!!Happy at what Martin has done with the Psiloi so a gain there but the other stuff certainly outweighs this little incentive. The heavy ballista is unchanged pointswise. My Strategos is cheaper but has lost the heavy armour if on foot.

My veteran Romans do rock but cost 20 points each in the WAB2 rulebook so I am still out numbered 2-1 but I agree it seems strange to shift up other points and not the Romans. I wont be getting a list for a while - how much is a legionary in the lists listed? It also seems strange that Danes should hace increased so much whilst at the same time losing the T4 stat. Nontheless still pretty enthused about WAB2 and am happily thinking about building and painting my nice new Testudo.
