Carl could you get the details here for the Fantasy Rules. I believed you said that all people need to have their lists and keep to the same one throughout. True?

I will be taking charge of the SFS Trophy challenge and Carl has given me his blessing (from the Lady no less!). I will start the trophy challenge games hopefully at the end of September so that gives everybody a chance to enroll and pledge that they will complete games. I'm looking to keep to Carl's initial rules with one or two oddball things thrown in to make it more exciting (you know me!) I would like two leagues as he stated but will limit this to only four to each league - first come first served. Hopefully this would be all finished before our AGM so the champion can be presented with it! That leaves three months of play - and potentially 5 matches for the champion. If I get more interest then it will go to five but I'm sticking to four knowing that there are roleplayers among you.
So if you wish to provisionally book your place quick by replying to this message! There are five places left Carl, Julie and I have included ourselves.
Starting at the end of September this should give people enough time to muster a 2000pt army and perhaps practise it. Full rules will come in the middle of August! There will be a nominal fee to enter - nothing overbearing and this will go towards a bouquet of flowers for Simon's wife. I think she will be touched at this.

I would like to play.
My personal preference would be straight warhammer, no rules variations, but I'm generally happy to play anything, provided that it's reasonably balanced.

An excuse to put a 2000 pt army on the table - sounds good to me so count me in
Regarding competition rules - doesn't bother me as long they're balanced and everybody knows what they are from the start Since these two conditions are pretty much a given I really don't care

Good response so far! We have Carl, Julie, Steve, Liam, Mike, and myself so far. Just two places left or four if we get an even bigger response! I will have to be strict about the numbers after that and if we do get five in each league then I will not be adding any other names. So the rest of you four places up for grabs - be quick or lose out!

That's one place left!
I actually CC all of your emails Paul.
I have decided that the last place be kept for Jon as he is a fantasy player through and through.
so all done!
Games will not start till after Gamesday so the draw for the two leagues of 5 will be made during club time in September. Thank you all in advance for your contributions.

here are the rules i wrote, but as he said, Warren may tweak them.
Simon Freshwater-Sturgess Memorial Trophy
This league format competition is being held in memory of our former member Simon Freshwater-Sturgess who was tragically killed in a car accident in March of this year.
As a keen fantasy player Simon enjoyed many games at the club before his move to Norfolk.
A trophy will be played for (hopefully each year) and presented at the clubs AGM in December. The club will purchase this trophy as promised to Simon’s widow, who donated all of his wargaming collection to the club after his death.
The format of the competition will be one army per person to a value of no more than 2000pts, and following all the rules for this size battle as outlined in both the main rulebook and the individual army books.
As not all the army books have been updated as yet to include special characters as standard army choices, then for the purpose of this initial competition NO special characters will be allowed. For example, the Green Knight, Crom, Skarsnik, Grimgor, Morathi, are all ineligible. Lord choices can, but do not have to be taken as outlined in your army book. If you are unsure about whether you can include a specific character please ask. The model for a special character can of course be used to represent a normal lord / hero choice. Only armies that have official army books are allowed.
All matches will be played using the current pitched battle scenario rules, and an independent person should be asked to set up your table terrain prior to rolling for sides etc.
In the interest of fairness in table set up please follow the following guidelines for selection of terrain pieces.
1. D3+1 woods per table. Wood elves get their free wood as normal.
2. D3 hills per table. If 2 or more are rolled then there MUST be 1 hill in each table half with the person setting up the table choosing the table half for the 3rd hill if appropriate.
3. Every player MUST provide their army with a special marker, which will follow the special marker rules as outlined in the rulebook. This marker should be on a monster sized base or equivalent sized piece of terrain. Once sides have been decided and BEFORE any deployment, both players roll off on a d6 to decide who places their marker first. The first marker is placed anywhere along the centre line of the table and then the second marker is also placed along the centre line at least 18” from the first one. Both players’ markers MUST scatter into their opponents half of the table. Roll 3d6 and a scatter dice to determine where it lands. If the scatter dice does not point into the correct half of the table then ALL dice should be rolled again. Keep repeating this until a successful roll comes up. Once this is complete deployment starts as normal with the person who won the choice of side deploying first. If either marker would scatter off the table because of the roll, then move it to the edge of the table and then ‘bounce’ it back along the same line the remaining inches. If this roll would take it over the centre line then it stops 1” before the line. One of the objects of each game is to control both your own and your opponents marker. The markers can only be held in control by a unit or character with unit strength of 5 or more. A character riding a mount that has lost wounds will still be classed as unit strength 5 if it started the game as such. To be in control of a marker the unit must be the highest strength unit within 12” of it. If opposing units are of equal strength and of equal distance to the centre of the marker then no-one controls it and no points are awarded for controlling the opponents marker but the defender still loses points as outlined below as they do not fully control their own marker.
4. Please follow all the standard rules for working out points won at the end of each game with the following changes to / additional victory aims;
• +100pts if you capture your opponents marker at the end of the game
• -100pts if you are not in control of your own marker at the end of the game
• +50pts for each table quarter you control
• +50pts for killing the army general
• +50pts per banner captured
• +50pts for army battle standard captured from your opponent. (This is in addition to the +50pts for the normal banner.)
5. Points will be awarded as 3pts for a win, 2pts each for a draw, 1pt for a loss. A win can be any points value over the minimum number required to give the smallest victory margin as outlined in the main rulebook. No additional points are gained or lost due to a massacre result for example.
6. Victory points should be noted but will only be used in the event of ties at the end of the league to determine 1st / 2nd place. If victory points are the same then a play-off may be needed to determine your final league placing.
7. If there is just one league then the league winner will automatically be crowned champion. If enough numbers allow two leagues then the runner up in league A, will play the winner of league B and vice versa. The winners of these matches will then play a one off game to determine the overall champion and runner-up, whilst the other two players will play to determine 3rd and 4th place.
If there are any questions please contact me asap and please fill in the form below letting me know what army you will be using. I will need an army list for each person, but as I will be entering this competition these lists should show only what units and their numbers are to be fielded. Characters to be shown as lord, hero, mage (inc. level) and any magic item(s) inc. the points value per item, but do not show what the item is or does. Magic banners to be listed in the same way.
One list only is to be submitted and this list MUST be used for every game of the competition including the final. You cannot change the list to suit the army you will be facing in any different round etc.

Actually Carl this set of rules will do - there is no point in changing them or tweaking them. However army lists should go to me now. As I will be playing - it would be an idea to do as Carl says and leave out the name of the magic item but includes its points value. However, in some cases example: 125pts for a chaos banner sort of spells out what you have!
Anyway there is enough time for people to play test their potential armies, tweak them and email them to me via attachments by Wednesday 24th of September - that is a lot of notice! You may give them in before this but can only amend to that date - after that you will play all your games with that list - no amendments allowed. There will be a prize for the best marker! Since I will be the judge on this - I will not enter this little side competition.
