I know it's only been a week since the event, but it's probably never to early to start thinking about what we may wish to do next year.
Anyone who has any idea's or suggestions for possible games for next years Festival of History can you post them here.
So far we have two suggestions.
(1) Matt Marlow suggesting a Battle of the Bulge Flames of War scenario. This would need American's and/or British plus Germans, on I guess a heavily wooded board (Ardenne forest).
(2) Liam has suggested doing a Wings of War game. For those who have not run into this game before it's a WWI and WW2 aeroplane combat game. In this case we'd be looking at WWI biplanes and triplanes.
Liam already has a number of aircraft models. Terrain requirements are minimal.

Julie and I are already looking at the battle of Thermopylae and working out the terrain based on the film 300. Its interesting to note that the actual battle site has the sea some way away as a lot of it was infilled by the coast to make a road etc...
If this proves difficult I'm sure Gaugemala might suffice! Either way we are going to need Persians and loads of them!

Guys; dont go buying loads of stuff that you may not use other than at this event. better to base scenarios around stuff we have available if we can. however, the choices are obviously down to individuals at the end of the day. Matt is going to buy (so he says) an american tank company for himself and then use it on the FOW table.

Nothing like reiteration is there Darkangel1? This would be quite cool having Nelson's flagship there. Was the Victory present in this battle?

yes sorry about that Liam i forgot about your impulse buy at the weekend. you can of course run the WOW game at the club, i certainly would be up for it as i have always had an interest in Richtoffens career and WW1 aircraft in particular. so whenever you run your first game count me in.

I think the best plan at the moment would be for us to get a pool of possible game ideas. Then later on we can look at which ones we really want to run, and how feasable that will be.

At this point in time, I've not got any real ideas for my scenario, as I'm not particularly knowledgeable on WW1 Aerial History (something which I intend to rectify). I am, however, full of enthusiasm for Wings of War, so you can guarantee that I'll be running something.
I did have an idea, assuming I could get enough people interested in running it, in having multiple games of WOW running; probably something like 2 individual small games of 1-on-1 (so that people who just want to try it out can give it a go without having to spend too much time on it) as well as a larger multiplayer game. Assuming I could get the people to run it, would this be a viable idea? The smaller games wouldn't need anything more than a 3'x3' area to be run on, each, so they wouldn't take up too much room.

Having played the game a few time now myself, I'd suggest that one on one duels is possibly not the best option, as you can spent a lot of time turning and maneouvring in order to get a shot at your opponent without doing much actual shooting. Two vs Two or Three vs Three is better in that respect as you have more targets so everyone stays involved more of the time. Either attacking someone, or attempting to escape someone, or occassionally both.
What might be nice would be to play on printed sheets of WW1 countryside. So fields, villages, some tench systems etc. Maybe have some cotton wool clouds on metal poles, as additional scenary, set higher than the planes as most WW1 aircraft didn't really get that high up, a couple of thousand feet I think.

Matts suggestion for a BOTB game for FOW is an excellent one and both he and i have had been chatting re scenario ideas and i think it would be good to incorparate a bit of what actually happened and some of the bits from the movie, such as the Germans must capture the fuel dump. my suggestion was to have the germans set up first and then roll to see wether the fuel dump is in the top right or left square. this would again be played on the snow boards lengthways as we did at kelmarsh this year with even more pine trees and hopefully some of Kevins new western front buildings. as we get more ideas i will let everyone know.
