Those of you at the Saturday all-dayer yesterday will already be aware that we (the Bedford mob) are planning a Warhammer doubles tournament on our December Sunday meet, and we would like to extend an invitation to all our friends at Rushden. A thread for this can be found here: bedfordgladiators.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=forthcomingevents&action=display&thread=771 (sorry, but you will have to log in to the forum to see this) Just a round up of the rules (for those of you without a login) - Each player is to bring a 750pt list
- Partners will be randomly allocated
- Each pair will play three games
- Games will be scenario based
The tounie is being organised by Mark Wightman and he is considering imposing some restrictions on the composition of list in order to, in Mark's words, "limit some of the more bent combinations". As he has not yet posted any details of this I can give no further details at this stage. We do need quite a few people to run this so we need to know how must interest there is going to be. Therefore if anybody is interested could you post either here or on the Bedford forum please. And for those of you who have not come to one of our Sunday meets before, they are run (usually) on the second Sunday of the month (so the December meet is on the 13 th Dec). Start time is 12:00 (midday) and we have the hall until 11pm (although to be fair we usual finish sometime arounf 7ish). So, is anybody interested?

I see one massive problem with this and that's the number of heroes allowed per 750pts.
Normally in the GW doubles tournament we know what partner we have and can work out which of us will take 2 heroes and which one will choose 1. As you know only 3 heroes are allowed at 1500pts.
As we don't know who we will be pairing up with I can see big problems if two pairs have put 2 heroes in each. This would make a total of an illegal 4 heroes for that pairing. I would suggest that people make two lists one with one hero and the other with two. That way you can "negotiate" with your future doubles partner.
I'm very interested to see what he means by "limit some of the more bent combinations". This alone makes the "draw" a bit moot if he means army combinations. For an individual list combination of units I can't see how one would get a "bent combination" at 750pts if the normal GW doubles rules are adhered to.
To be fair I haven't yet looked at the thread on Gladiators site so before flaming me down for perhaps hasting comments on this I will go there to peruse and come back here to further comment.
Needless to say Julie and I are well up for it.

Ok had a look - still none the wiser. Although I do agree with limiting the specials to either 2 or having one rare per 750pts. No comments apart from a question on the number of heroes allowed - which has gone unanswered due to Mark being on holiday by all accounts.

Warren
As far as I'm aware the intention is that this will be two allied 750pt armies rather than on 1500pt army, but don't quote me on that it's just the impression I got when we were chatting about it at the club.
If that is the case the issue of technically illegel builds becomes moot.
That being said, one of the things Mark was worried about was the possiblity of of six heroes on a side, which would of course be technically legal.
All speculation at stage of course, so best to wait for Mark to post on the issue.

Had some more info from Mark on this tonight as he's now back from holiday. Things are not 100% sorted out yet, he's still finalising things.
But the basics on army construction is going to be as follows:
750 Points Minimum of 1 Core Unit 2 Specials/ Or 1 Rare (So if you take a Rare choice you can't have any Specials) 1 or 2 Characters (One of which must be capable of leading your army)
There will be some exceptions to this for a few of the armies to take into account the special needs, or army lists of some armies (High Elves for example). These will be posted up on the Bedford forum soon I believe.
The games will be scenario based, so not just a standard pitched battle. Mark hasn't quite finished working these out yet, but will post the details up once he has done so. This means that a one dimensional army may not work very well in all scenarios.
Mark has also said that he's going to try and ensure that the random partners doesn't mean that two people with the same army end up partnered, so unless a lot of people bring the same army down, you should end up working with another army.

By the way, as it is our December all dayer, and as is becoming traditional, we are thinking of having a buffet on offer! So please let us know if you are coming to account for numbers. As you are fellow GCN members ( all be it in abeyance!) we will charge you member rate subs for the day of £2 Dave Wilkin

Just an update folks
Due to circumstances beyond our control (the venue has gone and double booked the room) the December all-day has been brought forward to the first Sunday of the month -- that's the 6th Dec
Hope to see you all then
Mike

Some people may want to go over to the Bedford Site to reconfirm their entry to Bedford's bash. I have for Julie and I. I thought you were interested Darrell?
