Hello everyone,
yes the fun packed Rushden Rumble is back for the 3rd March 2018 and has been specially revamped for Kings of War using CoK and clocks! I have more or less done the rulespack however because of the new rules coming in soon I will wait to see if any game play or units have been overly changed before I put this out. This will be at the Phoenix Gaming Club in Rushden at the usual venue in the Scout's Hall.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the set up, here are the basics.
You turn up with your partner - both of you have a 1000pts each. You also have a free at cost (0vp) mercenary giant each - more on this big fella in a mo. You will battle out the first round against another pair. It is the second round and third round where it gets interesting. We waver the evil / good alliances and randomly draw new partners for these rounds and you play with your new partner as a team. Now all results that you score with any partner get fed into the tournament results roster as if you were a singles player. So what ever you score so does your partner for that round. We are trying to find out who can master the doubles with different partners. The only drawback to this is finding out that you have been drawn against someone that you just cannot abide or have an instant dislike to. This has never been a problem in the past as these type of nit picky people tend not to arrive as the rules are quite clear and if they don't like this then this a fair cop and they do not have to turn up (although we would miss your company and fully respect your decision)-
Now the mercenary giant is free to include in your army and is worth 0 vps to your opponent. There is one or two small tweaks to the mercenary giant but essentially he is the same guy in the orc army and the goblin army. His survivability over the rounds does count towards extra tournament points for you and you only. How does this work? Simply if your mercenary Giant routs in round 5 he has survived fully the 4 rounds before which equates to 4 extra tournament points. This is added to your tournament score. There is an award for the single best surviving giant, the single worst surviving giant and the best painted.
I have increased the timings on the clock to 60 mins plus 5 mins of "getting to know your partner and his army" time as well as figuring out some strategy with the specially made scenarios for rounds 1 and 2. The third scenario will be from the CoK book but again I will have to see if this changes.
Obviously we will have two winners, who may or may not come from the original team played in round one. This has only ever happened once. Two runner ups for second place and two more runner ups for third place. There will also be a best painted force - this will be the 1000pts you bring and the Most Bloodthirsty battler which is the award for the most vps for AND against. So you may have been battered and lost most of your army in each round but you may just get this prize if you gave it back without prejudice! There will also be two last place awards but fear not these will also get in free next year to win their honour back!
It is a fun tournament which was extremely popular in its old form and genre - until the proverbial hit the fan. 2017 saw no Rushden Rumble at all, but due to various enquiries I have remastered it for KoW. Hopefully some people are up for a bit of fun and giant bashing! If interested please let me know - the entry fee is £16 per team (£8.00 each) cheque payable to Phoenix Gaming Club or £17 (£8.50 each) via Paypal payable to warren.s66@virginmedia.com

thanks again Warren
