Well the first one is done and dusted, and so it begins again... here is the first draft of next years rules
BA Trophy Rules 2016
Games
All league games will be allied v axis. Max of 2 platoons per list, only 1 air and artillery observer may be taken in any force, no matter how many platoons you take within it, NO exceptions, i.e. you can take a max of 1 of each of these units, which for British means the free artillery observer WILL take up this allocation. Max of 1 infantry, and 1 vehicle flamethrower unit per force, no exceptions. Warplanes and their associated rules are allowed.
Everyone plays everyone else in the opposing faction and the winners of each side will play off against the runner up of each side to determine the finalists.
The final is the ONLY game where 2 armies from the same faction can play each other, to determine the overall champion.
The points scoring will be based on that used in our Bolt Action tournaments, with the exception that a win is called if the difference between the two scores is 6pts or more.
Tanks / vehicles of armour value 10+ 5pts
Tanks / vehicles of armour value 8 & 9 4pts
Halftracks / vehicles of armour value 7 3pts
Other vehicles of armour value up to 6 2pts
Field artillery / Anti-Tank Guns 2pts
Mortars (all sizes) 1pts
HQ unit 2pts
5 man infantry squad 2pts
6 - 10 man infantry squad 3pts
11 man infantry squad 4pts
Small units (3 men or less) 1pts
The above are for inexperienced and regular units only, if you remove a veteran unit these are worth an extra 1vp each on top of that shown above.
Game Winner = 3pts - Game Loser = 1pt - Game Drawn = 2pts each
There will also be 3 objectives per game, and once placed these remain fixed for the entire game, and cannot be moved or destroyed.
When set up is finished each player places an objective marker of no bigger than 3” square in the enemy set up zone, i.e. anywhere 6” from the back edge and 6” in from each flank.
The 3rd objective (a small token or pin, 1” dia max) is placed on the centre line, at the dead centre point of the table, and a d6 is rolled and on a 1-3 it moves left, and on a 4-6 it moves right. To determine how far roll 3d6, add them together and this is how far it moves along the same centre line of the table. If it would end inside a ruin or building that is currently occupied by a unit, sniper, spotter etc., then it is placed just outside it, short of the distance it would travel. If unoccupied, then it can be placed in the building, on the ground floor only.
Capturing and holding them at the end of the game will give an extra 5vp’s per objective. You get nothing for your own objective NOT being captured.
Objectives cannot be contested, they are either held by one player, or by neither, no matter how close you are to the controlling unit / marker at the end of the game. The only way to ensure your opponent gets no points if they capture an objective, is to remove them from it totally. You only control it so long as a model is next on it, at the end of the game. Single man units, i.e. observer, medics can hold and capture any objective.
Army Points
Games can be 750, 1000 or 1250pts to be agreed by both players when arranged. This is because some players may not yet have 1000pts and this still allows them to enter at the start and increase game points if they add stuff to their forces as time goes on. Vehicles of armour 8 or more can only be taken in games of 1000 or 1250pts.
All lists to be drawn up on the roster sheets that will be emailed / handed out to each player.
Lists to be handed in at the end of each game and will be checked. Any mistakes will mean points will be altered and my change the game result, so please ensure your lists are correct. For example, if you give a unit points that mean they are undervalued then if they are not destroyed during the game, they will be classed as such at the end for calculation of points. If they are over-valued, this rule will not be applied as you have already ‘done’ yourself out of available points to spend on the rest of your army.
If a game result changes because of roster mistakes, players will be informed after lists have been checked.
Army lists for every game you play MUST be on the army roster sheet provided. They can be hand written but must be clearly legible. If not on this sheet, then you will be docked VP’s equivalent to the highest unit in your force, even if not lost, and if it has been, it will be added again. This too could alter the outcome of the game, so please ensure you fill in the form, which also need to be handed in to either Pete or myself asap after your game, and by the next week latest.
Rules
All games to be pitched battle to keep them simple, and to avoid different scenarios being played to better suit one side more than the other. Also, no special characters can be used, and no complete armoured lists.
Factions will get any army specific rules allowed in their own books, and can be changed from game to game, i.e. the British special rules where one can be picked from a list, and this should be advised to your opponent before both players reveal their lists.
Lists can only be taken from army books, the main rulebook or official lists as on the Warlord Games site. Lists and new equipment / vehicles etc. as in the new supplements are not allowed
If you choose a specific theatre please let me know in advance, and you must keep this theatre for selection in EVERY game of the competition. You can however change what you take each time, but only within what is available to that specific theatre. If you use the generic lists in your army book, you can of course change lists completely from game to game.
All miniatures must be painted with at least 3 colours and be based, again even if only by being painted green etc. No unpainted or undercoated only models will be allowed.
Also, no ‘counts as’ units to be used, i.e. do not play a unit of Russians as Americans or a German tank as an allied one. You can borrow models from another player, but they must be the correct model for the unit you want to play, and if they are destroyed in the game, they will be worth double VP’s to your opponent, so be very careful if you choose to borrow another players’ model(s), as for example if you borrow a heavy tank and play it as veteran and it is then destroyed it will be worth 12vps, 5vps for the tank, 1 for veteran, and then doubled to 12.
Tables
Set up the tables before rolling for sides, or alternatively, ask another person to place the scenery selected by both players, then roll for sides
No more than 3 buildings per table. ONLY fully enclosed buildings give the 6 to kill rule, any others, of whatever shape, size or look will not confer this benefit under any circumstances.
If artillery is placed in a building then they can only be on the ground floor, and only if the building is NOT a fully formed one.
If the artillery crew has to leave the building for reasons such as being set on fire etc. the artillery piece is classed as being destroyed, and the unit is removed from play. The same applies if the building is destroyed / collapsed by artillery fire from the opposing side, or air strikes from either side.
Please sign up below asap and advise if Axis or Allies, and if you have any questions or suggestions re the rules please let Pete or myself know
