I have been looking closer at the 11 missions (some are so random!) and then the special rules within the missions...
Trying to choose a list that will balance out accross all the missions, and then try to decide what and when to use the 500 point swap is rock hard!!
My 1750 list is; (1760 points eek help!!) CHQ - 45 Plat 1 + combat attached MG section - 280 Plat 2 - 200 Mortar Plat 3 sections - 210 Rocket Plat 2 sections - 225 2 Tigers - 430 3 Hornisse - 370
6 Platoons in total, so in a reserves game 3 will need to be off table so the Plat 2, and Nashorns would be off table, with the Tigers in possible Ambush or reserve too.
Also have been trying to think about gun teams with / without transports and those like mortars (man-packed) that can move and stormtrooper ti get into positions etc.
Then, the 500 points swap will be to lose the 2 tigers, and add 6 Fortifications of barbed wire, 2 x AT platoons of 3 Pak40's, and a light Flak36 2cm Platoon... it's then just a case of when and how best to use them?
Any thoughts from anyone (am I being daft and missing anything obvious?)?

It may help people pass comment...

Hi Nobby,
it's from the Stalins Onslaught book - based on the 78. Sturmdivision.
I used to play Flames ages ago just when Phoenix got into it, but have not played for well over a year so feeling inspired after the Sat all-dayer, spoke to Roddy, and noticed you were running a comp so am dusting off my good 'ol footslogging Grenadierkompanie...
I have had my head stuck in books all week, trying to refresh and understand the missions and special rules, trying to work out a balanced list that might work against all etc (part of me though loves the idea of a Guards IS-2 Tankovy Batalon!)...

Hi Nobby I think the list is from Stalins Onslaught.
Matt - if you brought the mortar platoon down to 2 sections you would have 55 points spare - you could add two panzershrek teams to the HQ to attach out and be 5 points under!
Well I have finished my list (for the time being!!) and painted it! Here it is :
From Fortress Europe : Panzer Company
HQ & 2IC : 2 x Stug G - 190 Zug 1 : 4x Stug G - 380 Zug 2 : 4 x Stug G - 380 Pz Gren Pioneers : 3 Pioneer Squads - 195 Armoured Pz Grens : 3 x Pz Gren Squads - 275 Panzerpah Patrol : 3 x Pumas - 150 Rocket Battery : 3 x Nebs & 1 x Pak 40 - 180
Total - 1750
Now have to work out the 500 point variant - having trouble here!!
Cheers

OK here is the variant list version 1 :
HQ & 2IC : 2 x Stug G - 190 Zug 1 : 4 x Stug G - 380 Zug 2 : 4 x Stug G - 380 Pz Gren Pioneers : 3 Squads & Faust upgrade - 205 Rocket Artillery : 3 x Nebs - 125 Tank Hunter Platoon : 2 x Hornisse - 245 Heavy Anti Air : 2 x Flak 36 88mm & extra crew - 225
Quite a bit of anti tank punch in that list! What do you think?
Cheers
Roddy
Total - 1750

Hi Roddy,
those lists look good - how come you have come away from the 189 Stug Batterie? Either way 10 Stugs are going to do all good!
Know what you mean about the 500points felx - can't get my head round that either!
For me - I think the second list with the Hornisse and Flak36 - you're right some good AT punch as I think there is likely to be some heavy Soviet / German tanks around, and also with the Flak AA as again chances are there will be aircraft around... Also Pioneers with AT4 will do well dug in and holding objectives. Looks good, would be great to get a game in too shortly?
PS - when you next do an order of that VAllejo base stuff would you give me a shout as want to try some too!

This is my current list at the moment - have started painting too (unreal for me I know!).
Sturmkompanie CHQ + 2 Shreks Gren PLat with 2 x MG42 (MG section combat attached) Gren Plat 2 2 Pak 40 (Pakfront special rules) 2 Pak 40 4 Hornisse Flak 36 Plat Nerb Plat (6 Rockets) = 1745 points...
If drop a AT plat then could fit in 2 Flak38 2cm's and 7 x barbed wire fortifications...??
And the 500 points - heaven knows at this stage!

The key thing here is that with the standard terrain and missions you can take pretty much anything to have a fighting chance. With the Corrivalry setup there is the chance you could end up on a snow, bocage, city or river crossing table with all of the inherent problems associated with that.
The 500 point variant should enable your primary force to be able to modify itself to accomodate one of those unusual table fights.
Hope that helps....or am I just stating the obvious?!?!??!
Cheers

A quick reminder to everyone to check their details are correct on the Runners & Riders page of the website. Please check you are not listed twice, that I have the correct club details and that nothing is incorrectly spelt.
In addition if anyone knows or speaks to any of the 6 provisional that have not paid could they remind them that it is on a first come first served basis and it will be the next 5 people that enter that secure places irrespective of whether they are currently listed or not as we are getting very close now.
This weekend information relating to the Army Lists and FAQ's will be published and hopefully that will clarify any ambiguities. In addition some information on the tables will also go up. A heads up is that with 60 players that means 30 tables. 2 of those will be 4'x4' urban tables and 2 will be 4'x4' bocage tables. The balance will be an eclectic mix - more on that to follow.
With the success of the event being the tables and scenery as well as the players etc. and with the uptake being so high - even with my addiction to scenery I need assistance. To those of you that have already offered scenery thank you and I hope to speak with you over the next few days to confirm what we are doing. To anyone else who has a particular penchant for scenery and is willing to help please make contact.
There will be prizes for the best non-organiser supplied tables!!!
Full prize list will be published soon as I finalise details with the sponsors.
Getting close now peeps.....
Cheers
Nobby

Interesting. I thought all the places had gone.
I was on a bit of a FoW downer at the point this was announced, but having played a few games recently I'm back in the mood now. I think I'll have a look and see if the last few places have now gone, if not I may well sign up (and pay) myself.

must say well done to Nobby, looks like its going to be an excellent weekend. i would have entered but not played enough flames during 2009 to provide anyone with a decent enough game, but maybe next year.

Soviets definitely.
I don't have enough German's yet to make a sensible list. Tanks, Tanks, more Tanks, and some 88's don't make the most balanced list.
Probably Strelkovy, or possibly Motostrelkovy, haven't quite made my mind up yet. Trying to find a decent balance between having enough Infantry to make the force good on the defensive, and enough anti-armour stuff to mean I'm not to vulnerable when faced with Tanks.

Right that's me paid now. Managed to overcome my "Paying Online" phobia for this one.
Ref Nobby's comment regarding scenery- Would the club be willing to help with lending some for use on the weekend. Supporting a local comp would seem justified IMHO. Who would we need to speak to?
