2010 Simon Freshwater-Sturgess Memorial Trophy Rules
For those of you who may not know this annual competition is held in memory of a former Phoenix member Simon Freshwater-Sturgess who was tragically killed in a car accident.
This competition takes the format of a Warhammer League, the winner of which receiving the Simon Freshwater-Sturgess Memorial Trophy.
The rules for this year’s competition are as follows:
Army Construction
• Armies must be no more than 2,000 points, and follow all the usual restrictions for a 2,000 point army specified in the relevant army book.
• Only armies using Currently Published GW Armies Books will be allowed. (If you are unsure if your army qualifies please ask me and I will give you a ruling).
• All armies must be painted to a basic standard. This is deliberately somewhat vague. As a rule of thumb if your figures are not bare plastic/metal or only undercoated, then chances are pretty good that they’ll count as painted. If anyone has any doubts please come and ask me.
• All players entering the Simon Freshwater-Sturgess Memorial Trophy must submit an army list to me by the middle of December.
Competition format
• Depending on the number of entries the competition will be split into equally sized divisions.
• Each player will play one game of Warhammer against each other member of their division
• The top two players at the end of all the games progressing on to knock-out quarter-finals or semi-finals (Depending on number of divisions).
• The winner of each division will play the runner up in another division, with the winners progressing to the next knockout round until only one player remains.
Games
• The standard pitched battle scenario will be played in all games, following all the standard rules for that type of game, including points scoring. So 100 pts per banner, table quarter, etc as usual.
• For the Quarter-Finals/Semi-finals and the Final the following modification to the standard victory points rules will be in effect.
If the victory point difference between the two players would indicate a draw then an additional turn should be played, recalculating the points at the end to see if either player has achieved victory. Players should continue to play additional turns in this manner until one side or other is the victor.
Competition Scoring
Points will be awarded as follows for the results of each game:
• Massacre (6 points to the winner, 0 points to the loser)
• Solid Victory (5 points to the winner, 1 point to the loser)
• Minor Victory (4 points to the winner, 2 points to the loser)
• Draw (3 Points to each player)
• Any concessions by any player will count as a Massacre result.
The VPs for each game should also be recorded, as these will be used to determine the finishing position in the case of a tie on points.
