Well... i spent my money on a Naval fleet and 3 boxes of ECW, with the new cavalry boxes coming out in a month or so time.
Which basically means no to collecting an ancients army this side of summer, so im sorry to say I wont be able to join the campaign unless there's a spare army going.
Sorry mate.

I picked up the bulk of a Han Chinese army today at Salute. So I should be in.

There should be one spare - after painting up the Persians they should be ok to use - lots of bowmen! However, there should be quite a lot of celts or imperial Romans left. In fact I still have a box of plastic Wargames Factory Romans there are 40 of them in it - Caesar's legion which are sort of Late Roman Republic (or so the box states). So these could be used to build up an Italian or Samnite army. Remember I have a painted unit of Samnites (which you have seen), plus another 20 odd untouched Samnites, together with some older Italian models (30 or so) again untouched. Samnites have hatred against all Roman units. I believe I have a painted up Italian / Roman republic Cavalry as well. With the Romans above acting as a proxy Italian force this could be an option - although you would have to perhaps add some bowmen, slingers. The only problem is painting the untouched ones. I don't mind spraying them black and then you can either use them as is or paint them how you would like. I have full respect for your painting if the ogres are anything to go by. There is no need to have fully painted models for this. You could even proxy them as a Spanish force (iberian). Even add a few celts from the club's lot and you have a celtIberian force - ish. The possibilities are endless...
So shall I pencil you in Kieron??
Excellent Alex!! Han Dynasty at around 0BC is great- would be nice to see what would have happened if Alexander the Great or the Roman empire would have faired against the Chinese - I think Alexander or the Romans would have been swamped miserably and would have been annhilated!

If this is to run from September I would like to get involved. I have a 1200pt Roman Army, 1500 including some Celt allies. All Warlord and set up from the origainal list in WAB. September will give me a chance and a target to get it put togther and painted as at present I only have a few units assembled and just one painted!

Shouldn't be a problem but you will need at least a 2000pt army. 1500pts normal plus your 500pts reserve. A 750pts skirmish army can be drafted from the same models and maybe proxied into something different - Roman slingers become Balearic slingers or Roman archers become Cretan archers.

Ok so lets see who we have for the historical campaign
Julie (Republican Romans), Carl (Imperial Romans), Steve(Carthaginians), Alex(Chinese Han), Roddy(Romano-British), Andy(undecided - possibly Vikings), Edmund(Imperial Romans), Darrell(British celts / Gauls?), Kieron (undecided) and myself (Spartans).
I realise one or two would be lending armies etc either from the club or myself which isn't a problem. I just need to know that this is my final ten. I will start writing up the scenarios soon and will email them to everbody so that they know what is expected. As you know it will be team based; team A and team B with five in each team.

Warren,
Robert had also expressed an interest in playing, although he'd need to borrow an army from the club or from someone else to take part.
Considering the number of Warlord's Roman's we've got there will easily be enought to do two, 2,000 point forces, probably with some stuff left over.

Yes I forgot I mentioned it last week to him. Trouble is now we would have 11, however if Kieron is undecided or may not want to do it then there will be a space for Robert. Otherwise he will need to find another person to take part to make it 6 a side.
So I suppose its up to Kieron if he wants to be included or if Robert can take his place.
Modified here - Scrub that up there as I completely forgot about James - yep there should be no problem - however there is a lot of Romans!
So far playing Romans or some description is Julie, Carl, Edmund, possibly Roddy's Romano- British might be included in that lot and of course James.
This will not matter as the teams will be mixed so that the other side doesn't play nothing but Romans - that would be so boring! As stated before there would be a few Roman vs Roman battles - civil war ha ha!

Very uncivil war if you ask me. Think I'm going to go down the Imperial Roman route too.
p.s. Many thanks for the trial game Warren, much appreciated.

It was a pleasure to play last night - I hope you got something out of it rules wise - I even re-learned / revised some of the rules myself.
So Imperial Romans? This would be a lot cheaper for you do to muster - especially with Warlords doing a lot of "cheaper than metal" plastic models. I thought you handled the manipular formation of the Republican Romans quite well but I don't think they were a match for that 570pt unit of Sacred Band Spartans! WHHOOOYAAA!

Yes Warren, They started well, but the class of the stronger, better armed Spartans was starting to show through. It looked like you'd eventually grind them down the way things were going. (Even if you were going to be taken from behind by some italian spearmen ;D) Andy
