About a dozen 25mm ish figures appropriate to a medieval fantasy setting. So guys with swords, axes, spears, bows, etc for the most part. Including a couple that represent your wizard and his apprentice.
A wizards retinue consists of the wizard themselves, their apprentice, and then a number of people they've hired.
You have a fixed cost for assembling your group, and there are a range types of people you can hire. These go from Dogs, Thugs and Thieves who are very basically armed and not that great in a fight but are cheap to hire, right up to Knights, Rangers and Barbarians who are fairly powerful and well armed but cost a lot more to hire.
The last time I put together a band for a game it consisted of my wizard, his apprentice, 2 thugs, 2 bowmen, and 2 men at arms (armoured warriors with swords and shields) I think.
Groups can also include animals, summoned creatures, and zombies, depending on what spells the wizard you've chosen has.
