Answers & Clarifications
Defend the CampQ Do camp defenders get an armour-save against missiles or combat ?
A The camp’s defenders do not get an armour saves against either missiles or melee. The only exception to this is if attacked by a unit armed with something that improves the opponents armour save the would benefit from that (e.g. if they were attacked by a unit armed with “improvised weapons” they would get a 6+ save.)
Q If the camp is lost, do/can the enemy unit occupy it. Can the camp be re-taken ?
A Once taken the cam cannot be occupied or re-taken. It is counted as a piece of impassable terrain
Q Does the camp itself count towards break point numbers - and if so how?
A The camp counts as 2 points against your army break point (the same a General getting killed). This camp does not count towards the calculation of what your break points is (again the same as a General). – this was left out of the rules pack originally, an error on my part for which I apologise.
Dawn AttackQ In the dawn encounter. If you scatter one unit through/onto a unit which has already moved, how do you proceed.?
A A unit that scatters into another unit stops on the point of contact, the same as if the unit had been scattered into terrain in could not enter.
Q Is there/should there be a maximum number of units which can scatter off the table ?
A No. In theory if every unit you roll for gets a “misfire” then every unit would start off table, but what are the odds of that? In practice I have never seen more than one unit per side start off table, but the potential exists for more not to have turned up.
Q If a unit scatters off the table at the start of the dawn attack scenario how many attempts can it have to return?
A As per page 65 it has two attempts to return just like any unit that has pursued an enemy off table.
Note that a unit that fails to turn up does not give VP to the opponent
Q If it does return, where does it enter the table?
A If a unit rolls a misfire mark the closest point to its intended start position of the centre of that unit on your own table edge and treat that as the point the unit left the table at, If the unit “returns” it may come back on the table within 12” of that point – see page 65 for details
The pass through the mountainsQ In the scenario for the mountain pass if stampeding elephants hit the sides of the table (the mountain) do they count as being destroyed?
A As per page 122 if, when called to move, the stampeding elephant would hit impassable terrain (the table side) simply roll a new random direction. Note this change of direction is only made if the elephant’s 2D6” stampede move will take into the impassable terrain that turn.
Example an elephant 12” from the table stampedes 7” directly towards that table edge. If the next time it moved it rolled 4” or less it would still move towards that edge. If it rolled 5” or more then it would have to roll for a new stampede direction
General QuestionsQ Just a question on generals in chariots. If you field a general in a chariot with at least an unarmed driver and not deployed in a unit, will he count as a unit of below 5 figures or still be classed as an individual character. Having a general run away, never to return, when a unit of skirmishers routs passed seems a bit harsh and not consistent with the period?
A A character in a chariot that has not joined any unit is still an individual character.
ClarificationsOracles Purely oracle based armies such as the Early Hoplite Greeks do not roll for oracle points. For the purposes of this event they receive 6 oracles for each scenario. This number was reached based on simple mathematics and play testing. Although boring it removes the extremes of rolling dice and stops fighting an oracle based army being decided one way or another by the Oracle dice roll.
Early Hoplite Greeks. As well as the various city state options available in this list (see latest errata for details) there is also the possibility for an army to drawn from one of three separate eras.
• Pre-Greek Persian Wars (before 499 BC)
• Greek Persian Wars (499BC to 449BC)
• Peloponnesian War (431 BC onwards)
You may also use the list as a “generic” Early Hoplite Greek army by not modifying it to one of the three eras.
Players who choose to bring an Early Hoplite Greek army must state clearly which city state they are representing and which era. If a player does not specify then it will be assumed they are bringing a generic Minor States list which will be marked accordingly and returned if necessary.
