Now that we’ve made a start on the New Year, it’s probably time to think about what the plan is going to be for a regular schedule of all day Saturdays.
At a minimum I believe people were thinking about having one at least every three months. However if there is enough interest, and there does appear to be plenty, I see no reason why we can’t have one every other month for example.
If we are going to aim to make the all day Saturdays into a regular occurrence, rather than the more sporadic as and when we feel like doing one as it’s been in the past, I would suggest that we pick a specific weekend in a month to hold them on.
That way everyone knows when they’ll be on, rather than having to make a note of each occasion. It also means we could commit with the scouts to a series of regular bookings in advance, meaning that we know that we’ve got the hall and that someone else won’t have come in and hired it.
This would give us the opportunity of running irregular tournaments or other competitions, as such things can be arranged well in advance, and we’ll still have a chance to play large scale games several times a year.
My suggestion would be the last Saturday of the month. Partly as this is easy to remember, partly as Bedford do an extended Sunday on the second Sunday of each month and this keeps us nicely clear of that, and partly as it means the Christmas extended Saturday falls nicely into the pattern.
If we do look at an alternate month pattern for this that would make the schedule February, April, June, August, October and Christmas.
I would like to look at running a 40K Tournament of some type on a Saturday if there is enough interest. Possibly a doubles one, as the Warhammer one we ran at Christmas worked out quite nicely.
I’d also quite like to run a all day RPG, perhaps the 40K Dark Heresy game, maybe something else we don’t usually play.
I’m sure other people have ideas of their own for stuff we just can’t make time for in a regular club meeting.
I’d be interested in everyone’s thoughts as to we should look at making the Saturdays a regular event, and if so how frequent. Any suggestions for games, tournaments or other events could also be posted here.
