There was an interesting question raised in the WAB forum - one that James and I came across in our Huns vs Romans game. "If you shoot at a unit with a character [eg general] in it and all the other figures are removed but there are still wounds left over what happens then?" Martin's reply: "The wounds do not carry over to the character and so surplus wounds would be lost. A character, once joined to a unit, remains part of that unit unless he voluntarily leaves it. If he is the last surviving figure then he is part of an unformed unit. He would take a panic test and, if he failed, would run without being able to rally. He would take the test at -1 due to the unit being below half strength. It is true that an unformed unit cannot use an embedded character's leadership and reverts to its base Ld in these circumstances; however I think I would probably allow the character to use his own leadership as the base when only he is left. So the skill lies in killing all but 1 figure from the unit " The interesting point is "He would take a panic test and, if he failed, would run without being able to rally." This is a ruling we need to be aware of - particularly if you have a missile heavy army (like Martyn's Arabs for the upcoming event at Peterborough) as concentrated missile fire at a unit with the general embedded in could result in an easy way to eliminate somebody's commander. Conversely - we need to watch out for somebody doing this to us.

Note that due to the sequence of play a Character cannot leave a fleeing unit. The character would have to wait until the turn AFTER the unit had rallied before leaving - and the unit in question could not move that turn either.
Small elite units with characters in just became really nice targets for concentrated missile fire.
Norman Cav, with warhorses with the General and ASB attached? Simply shhot at them until they take a panic test and fail - if they're below 5 models (I need to check that number) then once they're running they're not stopping
