Last night Warren and i played black powder, colonial game, great fun. It has got me thinking what 28mm napoleonics are within the club and what basing is being used.
I have partly painted french infantry but yet to base, and i know Warrren has Prussians.
So a request what armies do we have within the club and what basing have you used.
thanks
Paul

Not sure I know of anyone else with Naps. Painting puts me off what looks like a classic period!

Well its Julie that has the Prussians, I have the French. Its just too scary contemplating the painting at the moment. I have such a lot of other things to do - Persians and Maccas for Kelmarsh, new VC when they come, dwarfs for Rumble, and finishing touches to Salute models ... of which three new Jasons arrived in the post this morning! Also my Normans to finish (and start on some units)
Oh and did someone mention Dystopian wars??

Most of mine are just on single GW bases - well the ones I've done and they are the square ones. I still have loads more to do (French) - Julie has done hers on single and x4 bases but not much really.

thank you, so all to play for on basing front, it would be nice if could agree on a "club" standard we are all happy with. I am aiming at singles on the round bases to fit into the trays you had your Zulus on. I thought it worked well. semi skirmish - company level - but would be flexible for a number of rule sets. Hmmm food for thought.

I'm unsure about the look of Naps on these bases to be honest. I love the representative idea for Black Powder - however for other rules it may be a little off. Naps are inheritently large games with big units and should look like this on the battle top. The LOTR movement trays would only have eight guys per tray and their skirmishy nature would stretch out a big unit backwards if you were adding anymore.

they would be ideal though for march column if you turn them the other way

Absolutely a fair point, thats what makes it so hard. If you do 36 figure battalions, 8 to 12 battalions per army plus supports its a typical 28mm army. (over 500 models incl cavalry skirmishers artillery and such.) The idea of all that painting is daunting,, but I accept is typical. for now I will base on round bases but not model the bases, hence green bases. just for a time, until there is a stonger consensus of direction. at least i will get to play aaround with ideas. not an easy one really.

I've got quite big Brit and French forces, all based for the "Warhammer Napoleonics" I was convinced they were going to do. 20mm square bases and 25x50 for the cavalry. None of it's painted of course so I can re-base them if need be.

No need to rebase, although you'll probabaly want movement trays, for Black Powder

The only real reason I had for thinking about re-basing them to the Perry's 15x20mm convention is that French attack columns with a unit of 36 forms a square not an actual column and looks a bit odd.
