I can't make it but I do have a small dark ages village consisting of several houses, wattle fences and a church if you want to borrow them for the Viking game. Let me know quick though as I'll have to paint them.

Its that time of year for the Kelmarsh food stuff as well for those of you that are peckish and want a little bite to keep those fingers rolling the dice. It will be very much the same as last year although I ran out of chocolate / caramel flap jacks, sausage rolls, and cheese and bacon puffs before time. So I will be making more of them so I hope you are all hungry!!
Are there any sort of food requests of this type as I will try and make them? Any suggestions for cakes (little, cupcakes, large cake to cut slices from, chocolate cake, fruit cake, lemon cake??)
I will put up a price list soon. However due to food price hikes(on certain ingredients eg bacon) over the year they will be a little more in pennies but nothing that should totally harm your wallet unless your eyes are bigger than your belly.

excellent Julie, wouldn't be kelmarsh without some of your fabulous food to tuck into during the day plus stuff for stay tea would be good.
but all those mentioned above sound great. large cakes cut into slices sounds good idea too.
fruit cake, lemon, ginger??? plus savouries.
hungry now so going to have my tea.

Keep suggestions flowing as I have to go and buy the stuff in a fortnight. Ginger cake is nice but its an acquired taste.

Kelmarsh is just off the A14, junction 2 on the road between Market Harborough and Northampton (A509?) and yes the kids should love it, loads of stuff going on and that they can join in with, including the wargaming

A mate of mine always comes down and his three kids love it,
There's the beach, things to see, things to do, things to make and the all time kids favourite - things for your parents to buy you

granted it's not cheap but if you take your own food and drink it is a cracking day out from 9.30 - 6pm and stuff going on all day
it is cheaper if you buy in advance online though

Go to Cinema: £10 a ticket. 2 hour film. Almost certain to be re-hashed Hollywood tripe.
Go to Kelmarsh. £22 a ticket. Whole day. Fun and educational. Funducational.
I reckon Kelmarsh is the better deal here.

£44 is a lot of money and kids will want stuff But having said that it is a great day out. Go to www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/events/foh-2012/?gclid=CLTwl5X1jrECFRMgtAodmVZGiAfor details This year I'm hoping I actually get out of the wargames tent and get a chance to see the Normans / Vikings / Saxons - get a few photos to use a references for painting / modelling. After all with the level of authenticity these groups aim for its better than an Osprery book - and if you can get photos on 4-5 different "armies" cheaper too.

To add to my joy of the ocassion:
"The 1066 Battle of Hastings (NEW!) - Sat & Sun, 12.30pm For the first time at Festival of History, re-live the atmosphere and tension of one of England's most famous conflicts, and witness the making of the most famous date in our history."
photo ops a-plenty to use as references
