Hi all, Following on from last years AoS league and to support our bid to run the Simon Freshwater memorial cup I have put together a League pack for this year as attached. The aim of the League is to increase player participation and player base growth for Age of Sigmar, leading into a more 'competitive', in the loosest sense, knockout tournament towards the end of the year. I have volunteered to hold together the league, sort results etc so initial queries should be pushed through myself. Or at the club through Par or Paul Coram. If you are interested let me know and I'll add you in to all information as we get started. We are hoping to see the first round of games played late Jan/early Feb. I will be posting results and the league table monthly into this thread. Please see the attached PDF for details. Season 2018 Rules Pack.pdf (518.64 KB)

I'm interested in taking part.
But since I've not played any age of sigmar games at all since the original rules were released, I'm definitely going to want to play a couple of practice games to get the rules straight in my head and to think through my army construction options before I start playing any competitive games.
Given my other commitments, this will probably mean I'd be looking to start playing league games mid to late Feb at the earliest.

Cheers Stephen that's great news. I was just asking some of our regular players if they would be willing to play/manage a few demo games if we had anyone wanting to play but in your position. I know there are a lot of old fantasy players about. Once I've got some replies I'll point someone towards you and you can arrange a game if that sounds okay?
As with the league structure you can carry games backwards into following months just not bring them forwards, so starting 'League' games mid Feb will not be an issue. I didn't want some people playing all their games back to back then not being involved for 7 months! This structure should also help if we get new players mid season so they can catch up rather than have to sit out.

I'll probably sort out my own games I'd think, although I appreciate the thought. I don't particularly need to learn the rules, so much as re-familiarise myself with them, and get a better feel for unit combinations, so a couple of 2,000 point friendly games with someone who's been playing regularly is more than enough.
Next week I'll have a word with some of the AoS guys who're about and see who's available for a game on a week when I'm not running my Pathfinder campaign.

I would probably need a few refresher games too. Could you please answer a few questions Craig? 1) In the pack you mention building the army list - is this the same list that you have to use throughout the league as its not clear (as far as I can see) if this is the case or if you can change the army list within a faction or in fact the whole faction. For example: a) this game I wish to play a list from the Flesh eater courts but in the next game I wish to add something and take something away due to new models or units being released etc.. over the year. b) This game I wish to play Flesh eater courts and the next game I wish to play Darkling Covens. I hope you can understand what I am asking?
2) Could you be a little more specific about the "advantage" with square bases. I believe you mean the piling in rule or getting more supporting attacks because the GW square bases are a little smaller.
3) Could you explain how to get onto the warscroll builder as I have tried your link and I have got no entry symbols over everything. Do I have sign in or create an account?
cheers Warren

Do I have sign in or create an account? Morning Warren, yep no issues, 1. Yes points size and faction can be changed as the year progresses. Some people may be building their army through the year, painting and possibly jumping on the excitement of the new releases therefore we have not enforced a fixed list for the league. 2. Here's a link to the square to round base conversions. A few of the models were moved to either bigger or smaller bases when moving to round bases, w e definitely don't expect you to change your bases. Having played your flesh eaters there is no issues with your basing, its basically a caveat in-case someone has an abnormally based or positioned model/overhanging scenery; that kind of thing. 3. No need to sign up to anything. I think you needed to select the correct faction and army near the top to unlock the drop down menus? Let me know if your still having issues Craig

Thanks Craig I have to get a few games in before as playing KoW non-stop has muffled a few of the rules in AoS. The army builder seems to be working now. I may have extra questions about the changes from general's handbook 2017 to 2018.

No problem please ask away. There's normally a few copies laying about on a Tuesday. Im plauing Shadespire this week again but ill bring mine down if you want to have a good look through. Essentially its the same for list building but there's some new rules for allies, faction alligence abilities and points changes. The 2017 book added in 6 new match play scenarios as well.

Evening all, One month down (Jan) and a few games played. At present we have 15 players who have registered interest, but there's still room if anyone else wants to jump in. I'd encourage everyone to get a game arranged soon (and bite the bullet of a potential loss) otherwise you'll find yourself having to catch up a large number of games. Please let me know if I have missed any results. The League as it stands: Moving into 'Month 2 (Feb)' all players can now play their second game or play two during the Mid Feb to Mid March window if they need to catch up. Please give me a shout if you need anything. Craig

Ok boyz - here is an opportunity for you to get a few games in on a Saturday. It will be next Sat 3rd March.
We have had a number of drop outs for the Rushden Rumble so an opportunity has arisen where we have 6-7 spare tables for the day. This gives a number of AoS players the opportunity to practice new lists or even get some AoS league games sorted. The tables are open to Phoenix Members at £3.50 each for the day (you don't have to play AoS). There will be no concessions unfortunately for half day players - so play for the full day or get a few hours in its up to you but the cost will still be £3.50 regardless.
The doors open for Phoenix Member Players at 9.00am and we aim to finish at 17.30. I would respectfully remind you that the other half of the hall will have a tournament going on so the noise level should be at a respectful level - maybe you could do a round robin tournament of your own. One table has gone already so be quick first come first served!

Just a reminder that the league needs to be completed by mid December latest, and the winner will receive the trophy at the AGM which is the last meeting before Xmas.
Appreciate this is a long way off but with 14 games to play for each player, and some can only play once-ish per month, it's just to advise the normal procedure for completion etc.
Thanks

Cheers Carl, we've opted for a 9 game format allowing free opponent selection but limiting repeat matches (to ensure a spread of opponents!). We weren't sure on numbers so this format allows for any number of players and late joiners to play the required games without having massive time issues. Roughly a game a month.
We should definitely be finished by Dec.
