 Axes and Axis 2010
« Thread Started on Apr 8, 2010, 7:51pm »

Well we have been talking at length about this one and we have got a date for this year.

Saturday 4th September 2010
Time: 9.00 - 6.00 (first game at 9.30)
What's on offer - WAB 2.0 and FoW late war competitions.
Venue: Rushden Scouts Hall (Phoenix Gaming Club base of Operations) Brookes Close, Rushden, Northamptonshire. We have got upstairs as well to cater for these two tournaments.
Armies needed - 2000pts of WAB or 1500pts of FoW Late War.

Both of the rules sets have been scrutinised and a rules pack is out. To give you an idea for WAB we are only allowing armies from Sumerians right up to pre-1066AD. A list of books allowed etc has been put into the pack.

For FoW has been confirmed that it will be 1500pts of FoW late war.

We have a vague idea of the number of tables and capacity of upstairs and downstairs. To make this fair we have divided tables in half for the two genre. We reckon about 16 places for each one but this may change upwards or downwards depending on the table quota which will be assessed this Tuesday

These are going to be singles competitions (three games in the day) so be the first to put your name down for one of them. I am opening this up to club and forum members first before I go to the other forums. Its just a provisional "feeler" sign up and payment will be asked for to secure your place at an appropriate time. We are going to be quite strict on army list hand in dates as there will be point bonuses for correct and punctual lists and penalties for incorrect and late lists. More on this is in the rulespack to follow. FoW rulespack ready on page 3 of this thread. WAB 2.0 rulespack is also available now.
This will be quite popular so get your "yes" i'm doing it on the sign up below. Cost will be £10 each. There are trophies to be won and if you remembered the Rushden Rumble they were quite the bees knees! More on this later. However if you are just after a fun day with a cool and friendly club sign up below to one of them.

not sure about awards for early lists but maybe minus points for late ones, or simply if your list isn't in by a certain date then you aint in, and it goes to a reserve who has put a list in.

also, once your list is in you cant change it, unless of course its wrong in the first place.

For WAB its always bonus points for early correct lists... most WAB tournaments do this so why should we be different... as for FoW that's not my ball park.

just not sure that bonuses for early lists is something we should start in motion, whether others do it or not.

the only penalty i would impose is that if your list is not in by the date given then you are dropped down to last reserve and the first reserve who has entered a list incase of dropouts is put into the event in their place.

i heard some people moaning about bonus points etc at the rumble and these were gained via gaming so we may get some negatives arising from some people already being in plus figures just for giving in a list before someone else.

maybe it could be used as a tie breaker if two people end on the same points?

how exactly do you envisage the bonus points working and how many would be up for grabs? will someone get the same if they give in a list say 6 weeks before the date as someone whose list only turns up the day before the last date available to gain a bonus?

1st - were these people moaning the ones that did not get bonus points at the Rumble? If everybody is playing the same game then they shouldn't complain especially if there being awarded them.

2nd You are going to get some negatives no matter what you do.

3rd : If you state your intentions at the beginning people can say - "no thanks" and not enter / sign up.
I can't see the problem with the bonus for punctual and correct army lists. Who would actually not present one in on time given that the time to do so is so far away? The way I see it most will and if they don't they don't gain any points - there won't be any deductions at all as this would cause to much difference in scores. Giving somebody's place away to someone on a reserve list after they have paid does sound a bit Draconian, just because their list is late.

Simon has written the following on this

"Army lists must be submitted to the organiser no later than 12.00 midnight (24:00) on Saturday 14th August 2010. Please either send them by normal mail or by e-mail, either as an attachment or in the body of the e-mail. Players will be notified that their army list has been received. It is up to you to make sure that your list is in on time. If you are using Army Builder, check all point’s costs carefully as there are many mistakes.

List received before closing date: 5 Tournament points
List is legible and correct: 15 Tournament points
List includes Army Break Point: 5 Tournament points

The list marker will endeavour to contact you before the event if there are any issues with you list, the list marker also has the option to reject a list if they feel it is “not in the spirit of the game”. You will be contacted if this is that case."

This makes our job a lot easier here and most who have read the tournament pack will comply. The only downside is with last minute entrances. The advert for this and plugging has started now - so there should be no reason why people would want to enter the day before the tournament. I wouldn't want to hand my list 6 weeks before the event as I would want to fine tweak it with a few games first. Again what FoW will do is up to Stephen. As Derby are running the same WAB rules Simon and I don't want to detract from their remit.

@ Simon the only problem I can see with the tournie WAB pack is the big deduction in points for unpainted models etc... I think it would be best just to say that they have to painted and WYSIWYG, if not then they will not be able to play with them and will not be able to change their list. If they have 8 cretan archers and turn up with slingers, then they will not be able to play their archers. They would be asked very nicely to put them back in the case orthey will be removed from the table. People have got to get it correct. A deduction of 32 pts is very steep and judging by the battle points allocation is in fact the same amount that you would win for a massacre. This is the only thing I would change from the Old Glory Derby WAB rules pack.

I have found out that again because of umming and arrhing and not being proactive in getting ourselves together that there is now a WAB Renaissance GT up in Mansfield held by the WPS over the same weekend. I did say that this could happen... never mind - it is a different game but unfortunately played by the same type of people who would play Ancients.

The idea of using list hand in dates as tie breaker cannot be done. If two people have equal points and VPs (highly unlikely) the fact that such people tend to hand in lists on time, then it would be pointless. The allocation of army points will suffice.

You've got a few months yet and remember this time your army list will have to be in way before the date ... I'll pencil you in for the WAB then Rory?
